This utility updates the DSLR-A380 firmware to version 1.10 and improves the operability of the AE (Auto Exposure) lock function. After updating the firmware, the exposure will be locked when the shutter button is pressed half way down when shooting with the metering mode set to either Spot or Center Weighted.System Requirements

Before You Start
Determine Whether or Not this Firmware Update is Needed for Your Camera
This update only applies to DSLR-A380 cameras that currently have firmware version lower than 1.10. If your camera firmware version is already version 1.10 or higher, this update is not necessary.
Check the version of your camera firmware:
- Slide the POWER switch to the On position.
- Press the MENU button to display the menu.
- Use the horizontal buttons of the Control Button to select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu.
- Use the down button of the Control Button to select "Version".
- Press the center of the Control Button.
- The firmware version is displayed on the LCD monitor.
- If a version lower than 1.10 is listed, please proceed with the steps below to download and perform the firmware update. Ifversion 1.10 or higher is listed, this firmware update is not necessary.
- Press the Center button of controller to close the version number display.
Important Notes

- WARNING!: This utility is only for use with the Sony®
DSLR-A380 camera. Do not install thisutility with any other model. - WARNING!: This Digital Camera firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is notpossible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process anddownloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot bereversed.
- This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
- A computer with:
- A USB port or a or a card slot which is suitable for recording media.
- One of the following Microsoft® Windows® operating systems installed:
- Windows 8
- Windows 7
- Windows Vista® (with Service Pack 1)
- Windows XP (with Service Pack 3)
- Windows 2000 Professional (with Service Pack 4)
Note: 64 bit and starter editions of the Windows XP operating system are not supported.
- Camera power supply:
- When performing the firmware update, use the fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or the AC adapterAC-PW10AM AC adapter/charger (sold separately).
WARNING!: The camera may not operate properly if the power is interrupted during theupdate.

- USB cable:
- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
WARNING!: Update functionality is not guaranteed if you use any other USB cable.

- Recording media (one of the following):
- Memory Stick PRO Duo™/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™
- SD Memory Card or SDHC Memory Card
Note: The recording media should be formatted with the camera before using it to perform the update. Be sure to backup all pictures and data from the recording media before formatting it.
- A computer with:
- It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download & Install
Download and Extraction Instructions
- Download the DSCA380V110.exe file to a temporary or download directory (pleasenote this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded.
- Double-click the "DSCA380V110.exe" to extract the firmware update file, DSCA380.APP.
Note: The file extension (.APP) may not be displayed depending on your computer configuration.
Please continue with the section below.
Prepare the Recording Media and Copy the Files
- Prepare the recording media by formatting it with the camera.
WARNING!: The recording media must be formatted in the camera. All data on the recording media,including even protected images, will be erased by formatting and cannot be restored. - Copy the update file to the recording media with one of the procedures below. These procedures vary based on your computerconfiguration.
- If your computer has a card slot that is compatible with your recording media:
- Insert the camera-formatted media into the card slot of your computer.
- Copy the update file (DSCA380.APP) to the root folder of the recording media.
- If your computer does not have a card slot that is compatible with your recording media:
- Insert the camera-formatted recording media in the camera.
- Insert a fully charged battery (NP-FH50) in the camera, or connect the AC Adaptor to the camera.
- Power on the camera and the computer.
- Press the MENU button to display the menu.
- Use the horizontal buttons of the Control Button to select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu.
- Make sure that "USB connection" is set to "Mass Storage" in the Setup menu.
- Press the MENU button to turn off the menu.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the USB cable.
- Copy the update file (DSCA380.APP) to the root folder of the recording media inserted in the camera.
- When copying is finished, disconnect the USB cable.
- If your computer has a card slot that is compatible with your recording media:

Update the Firmware
WARNING!: When performing the firmware update, use fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM AC adapter/charger (sold separately). Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the firmware update, otherwise the camera may be permanently damaged.
- Power off the camera.
- If it is not already there, insert the formatted recording media into the camera and then slide the POWER switch to the Onposition.
Note: Make sure that the memory card switch is set for the type of media being used. - Press and hold the MENU button and power on the camera while continuing to press the MENU button.
- When the confirmation window appears, use the control buttons to select "OK", and then press the center of thecontrol button.
Note: If the confirmation window does not appear, check that the recording media was formatted inthe camera and that the update file (DSCA380.APP) is in the root folder of the media. - The update procedure starts and the screen shown at the right is displayed.
- Do not turn off the camera until the update procedure is complete.
Note: The update takes about 30 seconds. - When the firmware update is complete, the screen shown at the right is displayed.
Note: The camera will automatically restart after about 10 seconds. Please wait for the camera torestart. - After the camera has restarted, power OFF the camera, and remove the recording media. Next, check that the camera firmwareversion has been successfully updated.
Check the Firmware Version After Updating
- Slide the POWER switch to the On position.
- Press the MENU button to display the menu.
- Use the horizontal buttons of the Control Button to select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu.
- Use the down button of the Control Button to select "Version".
- Press the center of the Control Button.
- The firmware version is displayed on the LCD monitor.
- If a version lower than 1.10 is listed, please proceed with the steps below to download and perform the firmware update. Ifversion 1.10 or higher is listed, this firmware update is not necessary.
- Press the Center button of controller to close the version number display.
Notes:- If the version number is not 1.10, please download and install the firmware update again.
