How to troubleshoot an Out Of Scan Range error on a monitor connected to a Macintosh computer.

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

An Out Of Scan Range error can occur if the computer is set to a display resolution or refresh rate that is not supported by the monitor, or if the monitor is not connected properly. Follow this procedure to troubleshoot the issue.

IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

    1. Ensure the monitor is correctly connected to the computer.

      NOTES:

      • Most Macintosh® computers require a Mac® adapter with the correct settings in order to work properly with a monitor. Ensure the adapter is configured for a compatible resolution and refresh rate.
      • Macintosh G3 and G4 computers do not require a Mac adapter. Ensure the monitor is connected directly to the monitor port on the rear of the computer and the video mode selected is within the capabilities of the Sony® monitor.
    2. Perform a P-RAM clear procedure on the computer.
