Before You Start
Determine if Your Device Needs the Update
This update is only for RM-LVR3 devices that currently have firmware versions lower than 2.01. If your device firmware version is 2.01 or higher, this update is not necessary.
- On the RM-LVR3 device, press the MENU button, select the Remote Control Settings icon, and then press the REC/ENTER button.
- From the Settings screen, select the Ver. icon, and then press the REC/ENTER button.
- If version 2.01 or higher is displayed, your device does not need this update. Note: If Ver. 2.00 is displayed, please download and install the firmware update.
Important Notes
- This utility is only for use with the Sony® RM-LVR3 Live View Remote. Do not install this utility with any other model.
- WARNING: This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
- This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
- A computer with:
- Available Hard Disk Space: 200 MB or more
- Installed Memory (RAM): 512 MB or more
- A USB port
- Apple® Mac OS X® version 10.9 - 10.13 IMPORTANT: For computers running Mac OS X version 10.13 – 10.15, the DriverLoader_1015 software must be installed before installing the camera software update for each camera that's being updated.
IMPORTANT: For computers running macOS 11 – 12, the System Software Update Helper software must be installed before installing the camera software update for each camera that's being updated.
For computers with Microsoft® Windows® operating systems, please use the RM-LVR3 System Software for Windows.
- Device power source: This update can only be performed when the remaining battery level has four bars . When performing the firmware update, it's recommended to use a fully charged battery pack. WARNING: The device may not operate properly if the power is interrupted during the update.
- USB cable: Use the USB cable supplied with the device. IMPORTANT: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
- A computer with:
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
- Please view this Operating Instructions Supplement for information on the added or modified functions.
Download & Install
For computers with Microsoft® Windows® operating systems, please use the RM-LVR3 System Software for Windows.
Download and Update the Firmware
- Download the Update_RMLVR3V201.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_RMLVR3V201.dmg file. Note: Do not connect the device to the computer until instructed.
- Double-click the System Software Updater icon.
- At the SystemSoftwareUpdaterTool wants to make changes prompt, enter the Username and Password for the administrative account, and then click OK.
- At the System Software Updater screen, confirm the following information, and then click Next to continue.
- Connect the device to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Notes:
- When you do this, on the LCD of the device, -USB- will appear on the LCD monitor of the device.
- If the message Could not find the device for this update appears on the computer display, try disconnecting and reconnection the USB cable or try another USB port on the computer.
- Sometimes when the device is connected to the computer with the USB cable, a message appears to restart the computer. If this occurs, remove the battery pack from the device, restart the computer, reconnect the battery pack, and then start the firmware update procedure again.
- When the updater recognizes the device connection, the next System Software Updater screen is displayed on the computer, and the device screen displays the following image.
- At the System Software Updater screen, check the version number at the lower left.
- If the current version is lower than 2.01, click Next. Note: If the current version is 2.01, your device does not need this update. Stop the USB connection and then click the Finish button on the System Software Updater screen.
- The device will automatically reset, the following screen will appear on the computer and then the update will automatically start. Note: The update process takes about ten minutes to complete. Do not power off the device or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
- When the update is completed, the device will automatically restart. Make sure the device is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again before continuing.
- When the following screen is displayed, click Finish.
- You may now disconnect the USB cable.
Questions & Answers
Check the Firmware Version After Updating (optional)
- On the RM-LVR3 device, press the MENU button, select the Remote Control Settings icon, and then press the REC/ENTER button.
- From the Settings screen, select the Ver. icon, and then press the REC/ENTER button.
- If Ver. 2.01 is displayed, the firmware update was successful.
- If Ver. 2.01 isn't displayed, download and install the firmware update again.
