A STOP error 0x0000007B (BSOD) and the message A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer may be displayed during a clean install of the Windows® XP operating system. During Windows setup after you press F6 and then choose a SATA HDD controller driver, the error may occur if you do not pick the correct driver.
To resolve the error, use the following information when selecting the SATA driver.
- Verify the name of the SATA driver.
- The window that lists the SATA drivers to pick from usually does not display the proper driver. You must use the up or down arrow key to display additional drivers so you can choose the correct one.
- The driver names are very similar so be careful to select the correct one.
- After the correct driver is installed, the Windows XP operating system installation should complete successfully.
