What is the upgrade path to the Windows 7 operating system for eligible VAIO® computers?
Various levels of support for upgrading to the Windows 7 operating system will be available from Sony. Not all computers qualify for upgrade support. To determine the type of support available for you computer model visit the Sony® Windows 7 Web site at https://www.sony.com/windows7. The upgrade path from the Windows Vista operating system to the Windows 7 operating system as provided by Sony for select computer models is described below:
IMPORTANT:
- The original preinstalled version of the Windows Vista operating system is used to determine the upgrade path.
- Computers with the Windows XP operating system installed may qualify for some type of upgrade to the Windows 7 operating system if the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) on the bottom of the computer is for the Windows Vista operating system.
- Based on the criteria above, to upgrade a computer with the Windows XP operating system installed to the Windows 7 operating system, you must perform a clean install, which means the hard drive will be formatted, all data will be lost and a full version of the new operating system will be installed.
- If the original preinstalled Windows Vista operating system is 32-bit, the Sony supported upgrade path is to the 32-bit Windows 7 operating system.
- If the original preinstalled Windows Vista operating system is 64-bit, the Sony supported upgrade path is to the 64-bit Windows 7 operating system.
- The language of the original preinstalled Windows Vista operating system will determine the language of the Windows 7 operating system upgrade. For example, if the original preinstalled Windows Vista operating system is in English, the Windows 7 operating system upgrade will be in English.
- Support for upgrading to the Windows 7 operating system will be available after the official Microsoft release date of October 22, 2009.
