How to reinstall the Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center applications.
Follow these steps to reinstall either the Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center applications if they have been uninstalled, or to uninstall and reinstall either application as a troubleshooting method to resolve problems or issues with those applications.
- Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, click Programs.
- In the Programs window, under Program and Features, click Turn Windows features on or off.
- In the Windows Features window, click the Plus (+) button next to Media Feature.
- Under Media Feature, click to remove the check from the box next to Windows Media Player. At the The following Windows features will also be turned off because they are dependent on Windows Media Player prompt, click Yes.
NOTE: Windows Media Center will be reinstalled when Windows Media Player is reinstalled.
- In the Windows Features window, click the OK button.
- At the You must restart your computer to apply these changes prompt, click Restart Now.
- Once the computer has completely restarted, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, click Programs.
- In the Programs window, under Program and Features, click Turn Windows features on or off.
- In the Windows Features window, click the Plus (+) button next to Media Feature.
- Under Media Feature, click to add a check in the boxes next to Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center, and then click the OK button.
- Both the Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center applications will be reinstalled.
- In the Control Panel window, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the window.
