The AVCHD or PRIVATE folder appears as a QuickTime icon on a Macintosh OS X (version 10.8) computer.
Regardless of whether or not the AVCHD or PRIVATE folder shows as a QuickTime® icon, you can import the video content from the camera using the iMovie® software as you normally would.
The QuickTime Player installed on an Apple® Macintosh OS® X version 10.8 computer can also be used with AVCHD files if you want. See the Apple support website on how to use the QuickTime Player with AVCHD files for further information.
NOTE: Below the QuickTime icon, the content information will be displayed. In the example above, AVCHD Content is shown.
