Why is the Minimum Available ISO Sensitivity Higher than Usual when Picture Profile is Set to S-Log2 or S-Log3?

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

The minimum ISO sensitivity is higher than usual because S-Log2 or S-Log3 uses a different kind of exposure control to achieve a wide dynamic range.

S-Log2 and S-Log3 have gamma curves that enable recording with a wide dynamic range. In order to achieve this wide dynamic range, the camera controls the exposure differently than when recording with S-Log2 or S-Log3. This makes the minimum available ISO sensitivity of the camera higher.

Noise will be visible when you record with high ISO setting. Record on a lower ISO setting to avoid noisy images. To compensate for brightness you can try one of the following:

    • Use higher Aperture setting
    • Use slower Shutter Speed
    • Adjust the brightness after recording with an editing software
