The following steps may differ between Android versions. To learn which Android version your device has, find and tap Settings → About phone → Android version. If you do not see About phone under Settings, tap System.
- Disable all data connections over mobile networks to save power when you're not using the internet. Doing so does not prevent your device from transmitting data over other wireless networks.
To turn data traffic on or off (Android® 11)
- Find and tap Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network.
- If you’re using two SIM cards, select a SIM card.
- Tap the Mobile data switch to turn data traffic on or off.
Note: When data traffic is turned off, your device can still establish Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth connections.
To turn data traffic on or off (Android 10)
- Find and tap Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network.
- Tap the Mobile data switch to turn data traffic on or off.
Note: When data traffic is turned off, your device can still establish Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.
To turn data traffic on or off (Android 9/Android 8)
- Find and tap Settings → Network & internet → Data usage.
- Tap the Mobile data switch to turn data traffic on or off.
Note: When data traffic is turned off, your device can still establish Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.
- Turn off GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections when you don't need these features.
- Increase the synchronization interval for your email, calendar and contacts.
To change how frequently the inbox is checked in the Sony® Email app
- Find and tap Email.
- Tap
(Menu icon) → Settings. - Select an account.
- Tap Check frequency → Check frequency, and then select an option.
- Keep track of your battery consumption and see which applications are using the most power.
To review and reduce your battery consumption (Android 11/Android 10)
- Find and tap Settings → Battery to view the estimated remaining battery percentage and battery time.
- Tap
(More icon) → Battery usage to view a list of applications and features that have consumed battery power since the last charging cycle. Tap (More icon) to switch between app usage and full device usage. - Tap an item to get information on how to reduce its battery consumption.
To review and reduce your battery consumption (Android 9/Android 8)
- Find and tap Settings → Battery to view the estimated remaining battery percentage and battery time.
- Tap Advanced to view a list of applications and features that have consumed battery power since the last charging cycle.
- Tap an item to get information on how to reduce its battery consumption.
To view battery consumption for applications (Android 11/Android 10/Android 9)
- Find and tap Settings → Apps & notifications.
- Select an application and review its battery consumption under Battery. You may find the item under Advanced.
To view battery consumption for applications (Android 8)
- Find and tap Settings → Apps & notifications → App info.
- Select an application and review its battery consumption under Battery.
- Close and exit applications that you are not using.
- Lower the screen brightness level.
To adjust the screen brightness manually (Android 11/Android 10/Android 9)
- Find and tap Settings → Display → Adaptive brightness, and then tap the Adaptive brightness switch to disable this function, if it is not already disabled.
- Go back to the previous screen.
- Tap Brightness level.
- Drag the slider to adjust the brightness.
To adjust the screen brightness manually (Android 8)
- Find and tap Settings → Display, and then tap the Adaptive brightness switch to disable this function, if it is not already disabled.
- Tap Brightness level.
- Drag the slider to adjust the brightness.
- If your device is connected to an external screen, turn off the screen on your device.
To turn off your device’s screen when using Screen mirroring (Android 11/Android 10/Android 9)
- Find and tap Settings → Device connection → Connection preferences → Screen mirroring.
- Tap (More icon) → Settings.
- Tap the switch beside Keep your device's screen on to disable this function.
To turn off your device’s screen when using Screen mirroring (Android 8)
- Find and tap Settings → Device connection.
- Tap the switch beside Keep your device's screen on to disable this function.
- Turn off your device or activate Airplane mode if you are in an area with no network coverage. Otherwise, your device repeatedly scans for available networks, and this consumes power.
To turn on Airplane mode
- Find and tap Settings → Network & internet.
- Tap the Airplane mode switch to enable the function. You may find the item under Advanced.
- Use an original headset from Sony to listen to music. A headset consumes less battery power than the device's loudspeakers.
- Disable any live wallpaper.
- Update your device to ensure that you have optimal performance and the latest enhancements.
- Perform a factory data reset. This is sometimes the best solution if your device stops functioning properly, but note that it will delete all personal content saved on the internal memory of your device. Make sure to back up data that you want to keep.
To back up your data using a computer
- Unlock the screen of your device and connect your device to the computer using a USB cable.
- On the computer, select which files to back up, then copy and paste or drag and drop the files to a location on your PC.
To back up and synchronize apps, phone settings, and call history
- Find and tap Settings → System → Backup. You may find the item under Advanced.
- Tap the switch to enable the function. Your app data, device settings, and call history will be backed up automatically.
Note: You can also enable backup from the settings menu in Google Drive. You can synchronize your app data, device settings, and call history automatically by logging in to the Google account used to synchronize data on your old device. When you power on your new device for the first time, log in to the Google account during the setup wizard.
To perform a factory data reset (Android 11/Android 10)
Note: To avoid permanent damage to your device, do not interrupt a factory data reset procedure.
- Back up any important data that is saved on the internal memory of your device to a memory card or other non-internal memory. If you have any encrypted files stored on an SD card, you should also remove the encryption to ensure you can still access them after the reset.
- Find and tap Settings → System → Reset options. You may find the item under Advanced.
- Tap Erase all data (factory reset) → Erase all data.
- If required, draw your screen unlock pattern or enter your screen unlock password or PIN to continue.
- To confirm, tap Erase all data.
Note: Your device does not revert to an earlier software version of Android when you perform a factory data reset.
To perform a factory data reset (Android 9)
Note: To avoid permanent damage to your device, do not interrupt a factory data reset procedure.
