How to troubleshoot static sound or distorted audio coming from the CD player.

IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is needed to complete these steps, refer to the instructions that came supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

NOTE: Test the sound of the CD player after each step to determine if the issue has been resolved.

    1. Play a different disc in the CD player.

NOTE: If the audio is clear from the second disc, the problem is with the first compact disc.

    2. Connect the CD player to a different input on the Audio/Video (A/V) stereo receiver.

IMPORTANT: Do not use the PHONO input on the A/V receiver.

NOTE: If the CD audio is clear when using this new input, the problem is with the previous input on the A/V receiver.

    3. Connect the CD player to the A/V receiver using a different set of AV cables.
    4. If an optical cable is being used, connect the CD player to the A/V receiver with AV cables.

NOTE: If the audio is now clear, the problem is with the first set of cables being used.

If the issue is still not resolved, have the lens of the CD player cleaned by a professional Servicer.  Go to Product Repair.

IMPORTANT: The Compact Disc (CD) player should be taken to a Sony® Service Center (SSC) or Authorized Service Center (ASC) to have the lens professionally cleaned. Use of commercial lens-cleaning discs are not recommended.
