Can Sony products (including AC adapters and battery chargers) be used overseas or in foreign countries?

Various countries use different electrical power systems. It is important to know the voltage used in the country you are visiting. Plugging a Sony® product into an electrical outlet with the wrong voltage can damage the product or cause personal injury.

IMPORTANT: Determine the electrical power system used in the country you are in before proceeding.

WARNING: There is a risk of personal injury and hardware damage. Do not plug any Sony product into an electrical outlet that provides voltage higher than what is specified on the product label. Doing so could cause fire, electric shock, or result in damage to the product.

WARNING: There is a risk of hardware damage. Do not use a travel converter to convert the voltage. Using a travel converter may cause a malfunction or damage the product.

Check the product label to determine the required voltage necessary for proper operation. If the voltage used in the country you are visiting is different than what is specified on the Sony product label, then the product should not be plugged into the outlet. However, if the voltage is the same, then all you may need is a plug adapter so the power cord will fit properly into the wall outlet (since the types of electrical wall outlets also differ). The example below shows a product label that indicates it should only be used on a power system that provides 120V at a 60Hz frequency.

Although a plug adapter may still be necessary, some Sony products are designed to be used with a wide range of voltage levels. These products will have a label that states 100-240V 50/60Hz similar to the product label below:

IMPORTANT: A plug adapter does not change the voltage necessary for proper product operation. It only allows the power cord to fit properly into the electrical wall outlet.
