How to restart, power reset, or set the Android TV or Google TV back to original factory settings

    Before you start

    • IMPORTANT: This article is for Android TV™ or Google TV™ models only. You can check your TV type if you're unsure.
    • Make sure the TV is on and you remove any external USB devices from the TV.

There are three different ways to reset your Android TV or Google TV depending on the issue you are experiencing:

    • Step 1 (Restart/Power Reset) is always recommended first as it can resolve many issues and doesn't affect saved information.
    • Step 2 (Factory Data Reset) is the next step and will erase all customer settings as it resets the TV to factory specifications.
    • Step 3 (Forced Factory Reset) is the final option and will also erase all customer settings as it resets the TV to factory specifications. Use this option when you can't access the TV through the menu, don't have a remote, or as otherwise specified.

    Instructions

Watch this video or follow the steps to reset your TV.  Note:  Video playback may not work if trying to view it from the TV Help section.

Restart or Power reset (Step 1)

The menu items and steps may vary, so follow the steps that best match your TV menu

    Restart

    1. Using the supplied remote control (easiest):
      • Point the remote control to the illumination LED or status LED and press and hold the POWER button of the remote control for about 5 seconds, or until a message Power off appears.

Note: Depending on the model and OS, the Cancel or Restart screen may appear after pressing the POWER button on the remote control for 3 seconds or longer. In that case, you can also select Restart to restart.

    2. Restart using the TV menu. Depending on your TV and using the remote:

      • Press HOMESettingsDevice PreferencesAboutRestartRestart

    Power Reset

Note:  Skip this step if your TV power cord is inaccessible.

If you unplug and plug in the power cable, it may have the same effect as the reset steps above. If the situation does not change after pressing the POWER button on the remote control, try the following steps. If you leave the TV with the power cord (mains lead) disconnected, the electricity that remains in the unit will be discharged. As a result, unnecessary data and error information in the memory will return to their defaults, and allow you to use the TV again normally.

    1. Turn off the TV.
    2. Unplug the television power cord (mains lead) from the electrical outlet.
    3. Let the television remain without power for 2 minutes.
    4. Plug the power cord (mains lead) back into the electrical outlet.

Note: For some Google TV models, the following alternative method has the same effect: On the TV, press the POWER button for about 40 seconds, or until the TV turns off.
