Wireless network or access point connection using Windows 7

    This information provides steps to help set up a wireless connection on your VAIO® computer with the Microsoft® Windows® 7 operating system.

    Note: The steps provided may vary depending on your computer model. If you require model specific information, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your computer. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

    1. Turn on the physical wireless switch on the computer.

      Note: VAIO computer models from Summer 2012 or later will not include a physical wireless switch.

    2. Click the wireless icon displayed in the system tray.

      Note: If the wireless icon is not displayed, access the wireless network information using the Control Panel.

      • Wireless network from Control Panel:
        1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
        2. In the Control Panel window, click Network and Internet.
        3. In the Network and Internet window, click Network and Sharing Center.
        4. In the Network and Sharing Center window, under Change your networking settings, click Set up a new connection or network.
        5. In the Set up a Connection or Network window, click to select Connect to the Internet and then click the Next button.
        6. In the Connect to the Internet window, click Wireless.
        7. A pop-up window displays the available wireless network connections.
    3. In the pop-up window, under Wireless Network Connection, click the name of the wireless router or access point you want to connect and to expand the selection.

      Note: If your wireless network is not displayed in the list, it may not be broadcasting the SSID (network name). In this case you'll need to manually configure the wireless network .

    4. Under the wireless network name, click the Connect button.

      Note: If the wireless network is protected with a security key, the Type the network security key window is displayed. Enter the security key in the text box and then click the OK button.

    5. The wireless network is now displayed in the Network and Sharing Center window.
