No sound comes out of the subwoofer

Subwoofers are designed to play low-frequency bass signals, so the sound may be harder to hear. To make sure the subwoofer outputs sound, play an audio source that will make it easy to confirm the bass sound, such as a movie or content with a lot of sound effects. You can also test the subwoofer sound by test tone or built-in demo music. Check the article Sound from the subwoofer is too low for more information.

Notes:

• If no sound is output from the surround speaker for the HT-RT5, follow the next steps to troubleshoot the issue, which will also troubleshoot the subwoofer.
• Features and steps may vary depending on your product, so refer to your operating manuals for details.

Troubleshooting steps

1. Check the subwoofer is plugged in and turned on.
   Note: If any LED indicator is lit or flashing, the power is ON.
2. Press the + (subwoofer volume) or BASS button on the remote control to increase the subwoofer's volume.
   Note: The button name varies depending on the model.
3. Check the status of the subwoofer LED indicator:
   • When the LED lights up red after turning on the audio device, the connection (link) between the soundbar speaker and the subwoofer may not be complete. Set the link settings again.
     • HT-S2000
       
       You can confirm the connection status of the rear speaker or subwoofer on the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app remote screen.
       Go to Settings → Wireless Speaker Connection Settings. If the Automatic Link has failed, select Start Manual Link to complete the connection.
       Follow the onscreen instructions for more details.
       
     • BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000)
       
       In the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app, select Settings → Wireless Speaker Settings → Wireless Speaker Connection Settings.
       Follow the onscreen instructions for more details.
       
     • For other models
       
       You can find the link settings in the Operating Instructions or Help Guide by searching the index for LINK, Secure Link, or Connect the Subwoofer Manually, etc.
       
   • When the LED flashes (slowly) in green or orange and lights up in red after 10 seconds, move the subwoofer closer to the main unit. Place the subwoofer where there are no obstacles, such as furniture, walls, or metal objects, directly between the unit and the subwoofer.
     Note: The LED may flash slowly in green or orange for over 10 seconds.
4. Disconnect the subwoofer's AC power cord and reconnect it after one minute. Right after turning on the subwoofer, set the link settings between the soundbar speaker and the subwoofer again.
   Note: To set the link, refer to the Operating Instructions or Help Guide.
5. If the issue is still unresolved, reset the soundbar or home theater system. After the reset, perform the Easy setup process and set the link settings between the soundbar speaker and the subwoofer again.
