What is High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) specification and what are the advantages?

The HDMI® specification is a connection method that combines both uncompressed audio and video into a single digital interface and is used for connecting various types of products. It supports both high-definition and standard-definition video and up to 8-channel digital audio.

Here are some advantages of HDMI:

    • It supports high-quality, uncompressed, digital video and audio without the quality loss associated with analog connections.
    • Instead of using multiple cables, a single cable can be used for video and audio.
    • It can provide two-way communication between digital products, allowing the potential for additional functionality - such as BRAVIA® sync.
    • It supports multiple audio formats, including stereo and multi-channel surround sound.

NOTE: To check for HDMI capability of your Sony® product, refer to the operating instructions. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
