Can discs with Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD sound be played on the Blu-ray Disc player?

The Blu-ray Disc® player has Dolby® Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD decoding after the firmware has been updated to firmware version 2.00 or higher.

A firmware update is available to add Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD decoding. If your computer is equipped with a DVD burner and compatible burning software, you can download the update from Sony® eSupport Web site and then burn your own update disc on a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
