The Camcorder Displays an Error Code Starting With E: or C:

    The list below provides common camcorder error codes, their causes, and possible solutions.

    C:13:xx The recording media isn't supported or the media has a problem.
    • Make sure the recording media is compatible with the camera.
    • Try to use a different recording media.
    • If you have a DVD camcorder:
      • The disc may be dirty or have scratches. Clean the disc with a soft cleaning cloth.
      • Use a Sony® disc or disc with a for Handycam or FOR VIDEO CAMERA( for VIDEO CAMERA ) mark, which has surface protection and high-efficiency coating to protect its recording surface.
    • If you're using a memory card:
      • Check if the memory card is inserted correctly.
      • Eject the memory card and clean the contacts with a dry cloth or cotton swab.

        Note: Don't touch the terminal with your hands or metals.

      • Use a different memory card.
    C:21:xx Moisture condensation has been detected in the camera. Turn off the camcorder for at least one hour .
    C:22:xx The video heads are dirty. Use a dry head-cleaning cassette to clean the video heads .

    E:92:xx

    The battery being used isn't an InfoLITHIUM® battery. Replace the battery in the camcorder with an InfoLITHIUM battery or connect the supplied AC power adapter .
    E:62:11, E:62:12

    These error codes appear when the Self-diagnosis function works.

    Remove and reinsert the battery to cancel the error .

    C:32:xx

    An issue was detected in the tape drive mechanism or the autofocus mechanism.
    1. Perform a power reset on the camcorder.
      1. Turn off the camcorder.
      2. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
      3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
    2. If you're using a tape based camcorder, try another tape.
    3. Perform a factory reset .
    E:31:xx An error has been detected in the built-in hard drive.
    1. Perform a power reset on the camcorder.
      1. Turn off the camcorder.
      2. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
      3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
    2. Back up the data from the camcorder on a computer.
    3. Format the camcorder hard drive.
    4. Perform a factory reset .
    E:61:xx

    An issue was detected in the tape drive mechanism or the autofocus mechanism.

    1. Perform a power reset on the camcorder.
      1. Turn off the camcorder.
      2. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
      3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
    2. Perform a factory reset .

    • A third-party battery may be in use.
    • The battery was removed from the camcorder while plugged into an AC adapter.
    • The memory card was removed during recording or finalizing.
    • The camera was accidentally dropped or bumped.
    1. Make sure that an original battery is being used.
    2. Perform a power reset on the camcorder.
      1. Turn off the camcorder.
      2. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
      3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
    3. Back up the data from the memory card on a computer.
    4. Format the memory card using the camcorder.
    5. Perform a factory reset .
    E:95:00 An issue with the GPS hardware.

    Perform a factory reset  on the camcorder.

    E:xx:xx (other error codes)
    1. Perform a power reset on the camcorder.
      1. Turn off the camcorder.
      2. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
      3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
    2. Perform a factory reset .
