The overheating warning appears on the camera and continuous recording stops

Alpha cameras allow you to record video and still image content using advanced focus, imaging, and resolution settings with interchangeable lenses. Continuous recording time and multi-burst image capture specifications are listed in the Help Guides.

• High temperature warning indicator - Turn off the device and allow time for the unit to cool. To maximize continuous recording and multi-burst image capture time before the camera shuts down, consider these tips and settings:
  • Set the Auto Power OFF Temp. to High. (ILCE-1, 7M3, 7M4, 7RM3, 7RM4, 7RM5, 7SM3, 9, 9M2, 6400, 6600, 6700, ZV-E10, and ZV-E1)
    Note: We recommend using a tripod when the Auto Power OFF Temp. is set to High to avoid the possibility of low-temperature burns.

  • Depending on your camera, USB Power Delivery may provide extended camera use without overheating.  Refer to your camera Help Guide for details.
  • Limit camera exposure to direct sunlight while recording.
  • Turn off the power when the camera is not in use.
  • In certain situations, shorten the Power Save Start Time so the camera is not on and idle:

    • MENU → (Setup) → [Power Setting Option] → [Power Save Start Time] → desired setting.

    • Select 10 seconds or 1 minute as you can easily return to shooting mode by an operation such as pressing the shutter button.
    • This will preserve battery use, and therefore produce less heat accumulation.
  • When the camera is set to Movie mode, the camera begins to monitor audio and other settings, effectively entering a standby, power usage mode that may produce more heat. Try to place the camera in standby mode only when preparing to record if heat is an issue.
  • Select settings and camera changes before recording.
  • When possible, selecting a lower File Format resolution generates less heat.
  • Set SteadyShot to Off and mount the camera on a tripod if possible.
  • Disconnect the camera from the Wi-Fi® connection.
  • Record with a CFexpress Type A memory card if possible.
  • If using a microSD™ card together with an SD™ card adaptor, heat buildup can occur and cut continuous recording time.
    • We recommend using an SD card instead of the microSD card and SD card adapter in these cases.
  •  Check the memory card for the proper V (V30, V60, V90) rating for the video you are recording.  Using a card with a lower V rating can produce heat. Check your Help Guide for memory card specifications.
  • Disable the Proxy Recording mode for applicable models.
  • Be sure to use the supplied battery or a compatible external power supply.

    IMPORTANT:

    • The ZV-1 has a continuous XAVC S 4K record time of approximately 5 minutes when the Auto Power OFF Temp. is set to Standard.  The XAVC S 4K record time increases to up to 30 minutes when Auto Power OFF Temp. is set to High. 

    • We recommend using a tripod when the Auto Power OFF Temp. is set to High to avoid the possibility of low-temperature burns.

• Check the memory card for the proper class rating for the video you are recording. Check your Help Guide for memory card specifications.
• Limit exposure to direct sunlight while recording.
• Turn off the power when the camera is not in use.

Although designed for nonstop recording timeframes, the ambient temperature (high or low) or the use of non-Sony or incorrect power supply devices can have an effect on the recording time of the camcorder.

• Camcorders
  • High temperature warning indicator - Turn off the device and allow time for the unit to cool.
    • Slow flashing - The temperature of your camcorder is rising.
    • Fast flashing - The temperature of your camcorder is extremely high.
  • Low temperature warning indicator - Turn off the camcorder and move it to a warmer location.
    • Fast flashing - The temperature of your camcorder is extremely low.
• Action Cams
  • - High temperature warning indicator or HEAT. Turn off the device and allow time for the unit to cool.
    • The power may turn off automatically, or you may be unable to record images.
  • For the HDRAZ1, the icon and error code appears on the Live-view Remote Control:
    • Rising Temperature .
    • Error code 10-01.
