    Before You Start

    Check the system software version

    Follow the instructions below to check the system software version. If the system software version is Ver.2.01, the update is not required.

    1. Select [Menu] → [2/2] → [VERSION] → [FLASH] on the device.
    2. The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.

    System Requirements

    Operating systems

    The latest version of the system software update is compatible with most commonly used versions of Microsoft® Windows:

    • Windows® 10
    • Windows® 8.1

    Computer hardware

    The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:

    • Hard Drive: 500 MB or more
    • RAM: 512 MB or more

    NOTE: Please close all other application software before updating the system software.

    Other Hardware

    • Power source for the device:
      • Four new LR6 (AA-sized) alkaline batteries
        • or
      • Four fully charged AA-sized rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries
      NOTE: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is enough. We recommend that you use new batteries or fully charged batteries.
    • Use USB-standard cable or USB cable attached to the camera.
      NOTE: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Download & Install

    Important notice

    • Use four new LR6 (AA size) alkaline batteries or four fully charged AA-sized rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries.
    • Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the device may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
    • Prevent your computer from entering Sleep mode.
    • Ensure all devices except the computer are disconnected.

    How to download the Updater:

    1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
    2. After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
    3. The file [Update_HVLF60RMV201.exe] file will start downloading.
    4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

      5. Note for Windows 8.1/10 users: With the standard settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in your Downloads folder. Click the Desktop icon on the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder using Explorer.

    Step 1: Start the Updater

    1. Close all currently programs currently running on your computer.
    2. Double-click the [Update_HVLF60RMV201.exe] file you downloaded. - Do not connect the device at this point.
    3. System Software Updater starts up.

    4. Turn on the device.
    5. Use USB-standard cable or USB cable attached to the camera. Then connect the computer and the device. The LCD monitor of the device turns off when it is connected with the USB cable.

      NOTE: If the computer cannot find the device, the message "Could not find the device for this update." appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.
      • Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
      • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
    6. After confirming the LCD monitor for the device, click [Next]. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.
      After confirming [Current version] is “Ver.2.00” or earlier, click [Next]. If the current system software version is "2.01" or later, the update is not required.
      In this case stop the USB connection and click [Finish], turn off the device, remove the battery pack, reinsert the battery and turn the device back on.

      NOTE: If the message "Would you like to install this device software?" (Publisher: Sony Corporation) appears on screen, click [Install].

    7. The device automatically resets.
      The following screen appears.

    8. Start the update
      After automatically resetting, the screen below appears. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 10 minutes).
      NOTE: Never turn off the device nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

    9. Complete the update
      Once the update is complete, the screen below will be shown. The device will automatically reboot, which may take a few minutes.
      When the screen appears, press the [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable. Turn off the device and turn it on again.

    Step 2: Confirm the system software version of your device is Ver.2.01.

    1. Select [Menu] → [2/2] → [VERSION] → [FLASH] on the device.
    2. The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.
