How to import videos from a DVD camcorder to a computer using the Apple® iMovie® '08 software.
IMPORTANT: This procedure requires a USB connection. The DCR-DVD92, DCR-DVD105, and DCR-DVD205 do not support USB connectivity. Video recorded with these models can be copied from the DVD using the DVD-ROM drive of a computer .
- Turn on the computer.
- Plug the power adapter of the camcorder into an electrical outlet.
- Connect the power adapter to the camcorder.
- Turn on the camcorder.
- Insert the 8cm DVD disc into the camcorder.
- Connect the supplied USB cable to both the USB jack on the camcorder and the computer.
- On the camcorder, select the USB CONNECT option displayed on the camcorder LCD.
NOTE: A DVD icon like the one below appears on the computer screen.
- On the computer, start the Apple iMovie '08 software.
NOTE: After the software starts, the name of the device where the video is stored displays in the software window.
- Use one of the methods below to import videos.
- To import all the videos:
- At the lower-left corner, click Automatic.
- At the lower-right corner, click the Import All button.
- To import only some videos:
- At the lower-left corner, click Manual.
- Under the image icons displayed, click to check the boxes of the videos you want to import.
- At the lower-right corner, click Import Checked.
- To import all the videos:
- Select the location to save the videos.
- In the Create New Event section, type a name for the videos.
- Click the OK button.
NOTE: The videos now start being copied to the computer. An Import complete dialog box will display when the import is finished.
- In the Import complete dialog box, click the OK button.
NOTES:
- For information about editing video, refer to the iMovie Help option.
- Drag the DVD icon to the Trash icon or turn off the computer before disconnecting the USB cable.
- If the iMovie software cannot import videos, check the Apple Web site for any current iMovie software updates.
