My camera doesn't display the remaining battery charge or displays "The operation and safety of this battery cannot be guaranteed. Continue use?"

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

Please note that certain camera models now have a battery authenticity check. After installing the latest firmware update, a message will appear if a third-party or counterfeit battery pack is being used:

    • You can select OK to skip the message.

While third-party batteries may work with Sony cameras, the Sony camera may not interface with the third-party battery in the same way as a Sony-branded battery.  For example, the Sony camera may not be able to read and display the third-party battery capacity or remaining charge:

    Notes:

    • New models and models with firmware updates released after September 2023 will incorporate the battery authenticity check.

For your safety, we recommend genuine Sony rechargeable battery packs purchased from Sony or a Sony-authorized retailer. For more information, refer to the Watch Out for Counterfeit Products article.

Sony makes no warranty with respect to third-party batteries or their compatibility, quality, or performance with Sony cameras. Sony is not responsible for any damages or failures caused by non-genuine battery packs.
