An icon or symbol of a hand shows on the LCD screen.
Even when using a camera with the SteadyShot® technology, the hand icon displays if camera shake is detected, insufficient light is available when preparing to take a picture, or when the shutter speed is set to use a 1/30th second or longer shutter speed. It is simply an indicator to remind you that the camera needs to be held steady. Using the flash or mounting the camera on a tripod (or other secure location) is recommended in this case.
