How can I set a flash to the optical wireless mode when the flash supports both the radio wireless and optical wireless functions?

    Follow the steps below to set your external flash in either optical wireless controller or optical wireless remote mode.

    Before you start

    • Make sure the controller and remote are within 5 meters of each other.
    • Set up the controller and the remote on the same wireless optical channel.
    • It's better to use radio wireless mode if both controller and remote have radio wireless features.
    • Check your flash manual for model-specific instructions. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

    Set up the flash as a controller

    1. Mount the flash on your camera's multi-interface shoe.
    2. Set your flash to optical wireless mode.
      1. Press the MENU button.
      2. Select the Radio icontab.
      3. Select Radio/Optical SELECTSELECT.
      4. Select theOptical wireless flash icon.

    3. Set your flash to Optical wireless flash CTRL (optical controller) mode:
      1. Press the WL button.
      2. Select Optical wireless flashCTRL.

    Set up the flash as a remote

    1. Set your flash to optical wireless.
      1. Press the MENU button.
      2. Select the Radio icontab.
      3. Select Radio/Optical SELECT SELECT.
      4. Select theOptical wireless flash icon.

    2. Set your flash in Optical wireless flashRMT (optical remote) mode:
      1. Press the WL button.
      2. Select Image indicating the icon for the optical wireless flashRMT.

    Note: If you're using the built-in flash of an A-mount camera as a controller, make sure Image indicating the icon for the optical wireless flashCH of your flash is set to 1.
