Camera Accessibility Functions
Learn about the camera’s accessibility functions and user assistance functions. You can find similar information in the camera’s Help Guide.
Screen Reader
The screen reader reads aloud information, such as text on the screen. Supported languages depend on the camera model. This function is available only when the language menu is supported.
How to enable the screen reader function
To always enable the screen reader function, please select Screen Reader and then set it to On in the initial setup screen that appears after turning on the camera for the first time.
Once you use the screen reader function on the initial setup screen, the screen reader function will remain enabled. You can switch the screen reader on and off by pressing and holding the MENU button.
Note: The MENU button is the top circular button on the right side of the back of the camera, next to the monitor.
If you have not enabled the screen reader on the initial setup screen, you can enable the function from the MENU.
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Setup) → Accessibility → Screen Reader → Screen Reader → On
How to set the reading speed
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Setup) → Accessibility → Screen Reader → Speed → Sets the reading speed.
How to set the screen reader volume
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Setup) → Accessibility → Screen Reader → Volume → Sets the reading volume.
How to enable the screen reader function by pressing and holding the MENU button
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Setup) → Accessibility → Screen Reader → Long Press to Switch → On
Enlarge Screen (Text magnification)
This function enlarges the MENU screen for better text readability. (Some MENU screens do not support the enlarging function.) Each time you press the C1 button (Custom Btn 1) on the MENU screen, the magnification scale switches to the scale you have set in Magnification. You can adjust the displayed position by rotating the control dial or control wheel. You can also move the displayed position by touching and dragging the screen, while the screen display is magnified when Touch Operation is set to On and Menu Screen is set to On
How to enable the enlarge screen function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select(Setup) → Accessibility → Enlarge Screen → Enlarge Menu Scrn → On (Custom Btn 1)
How to set the screen magnification.
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select(Setup) → Accessibility → Enlarge Screen → Magnification → Select the magnification to use.
Focus Magnifier
This function lets you check the focus by enlarging the image before shooting. You can also use the focus magnifier function by touching the screen.
How to enable the focus magnifier function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Focus) → Focus Assistant → Focus Magnifier
- Press the center of the control wheel to zoom in on the image, and use the top/bottom/left/right of the control wheel to adjust the zoomed position.
How to use the focus magnifier function by touching the screen (When shooting in manual focus mode)
When Touch Func. in Shooting is set to Touch Focus, you can magnify the image and adjust the focus by touching (double tapping) the monitor.
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Touch Operation → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Shooting Screen → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Touch Func. in Shooting → Touch Focus
Focus Map (Movie)
When shooting a movie, this function displays areas that are in focus and areas that are out of focus so that you can visually distinguish them. Areas behind the in-focus region are indicated by dots in a cool color and those in front of the in-focus region are indicated by dots in a warm color.
How to enable the focus map function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Focus) → Focus Assistant → Focus Map → On
Peaking Display (enhances the outline of in-focus areas)
This function enhances the outline of in-focus areas during shooting with Manual Focus or Direct Manual Focus. When shooting a movie, you can also use the peaking function with auto focus.

On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Focus) → Peaking Display → Peaking Display → On
How to set the level of enhancement of in-focus areas
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Focus) → Peaking Display → Peaking Level → Sets the level of enhancement of in-focus areas.
How to set the color used to enhance in-focus areas
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
Select (Focus) → Peaking Display → Peaking Color → Sets the color used to enhance in-focus areas.
Subject Recognition in AF
If you set the subject in advance, this function enables the camera to automatically recognize the subject and focus on the eyes, etc. when shooting images. When there are faces or eyes in or around the designated Focus Area, the camera prioritizes focusing on those faces or eyes. When capturing still images, pressing the shutter button halfway down will focus on the recognized faces or eyes. During video recording, the camera will automatically focus on the recognized faces or eyes, even without pressing the shutter button.
How to enable the subject recognition in AF function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Focus) → Subject Recognition → Subject Recog in AF → On
- Select (Focus) → Subject Recognition → Recognition Target → Select a subject.
Touch Tracking
This function allows you to select a subject to track by touch during still image shooting (autofocus) or movie recording.
How to use the touch tracking function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Touch Operation → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Shooting Screen → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Touch Func. in Shooting → Touch Tracking
Touch Focus
You can also touch a subject to focus on it when shooting movies.
How to enable the touch focus function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Touch Operation → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Shooting Screen → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Touch Func. in Shooting → Touch Focus
Note: This function is available when Focus Area is set to Wide, Zone, Center Fix, Tracking: Wide, Tracking: Zone, or Tracking: Center Fix.
Touch Shutter
During still image shooting (autofocus), this function allows you to automatically focus and capture the image on the point you touch.
How to enable the touch shutter function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Touch Operation → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Shooting Screen → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Touch Func. in Shooting → Touch Shutter
Note: This function is available when Focus Area is set to Wide, Zone, Center Fix, Tracking: Wide, Tracking: Zone, or Tracking: Center Fix.
Touch Auto Exposure (AE)
This function lets you automatically set the exposure based on the brightness of a point you touch. You can fine-tune the brightness by sliding the brightness adjustment bar that appears after touching.
How to enable touch Auto Exposure (AE)
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Touch Operation → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Shooting Screen → On
- Select (Setup) → Touch Operation → Shooting Screen → Touch Func. in Shooting → Touch AE
Vari-angle LCD screen
The camera is equipped with a vari-angle LCD monitor that opens out horizontally for still image, movie, or vlog shooting. You can also take selfies easily while looking at the monitor. It is also useful for low-angle or high-angle shooting.
Custom function
You can customize and assign the functions you most frequently use to easily operable buttons and dials. This lets you skip the process of selecting items from the menu screen and you can recall the functions more quickly. You can separately assign functions to buttons and dials for still image shooting mode, movie shooting mode, and playback mode.
How to enable the custom function
On the MENU screen, configure the following settings:
To assign a function to a button or dial, select (Setup) → Operation Customize → Custom Key/Dial Set., Custom Key/Dial Set., or Custom Key Setting.
