    Benefits and improvements

    This utility updates your Walkman® player to firmware version 1.20 and provides the following benefits:

    Improvements over version 1.10:

    • Addresses an issue where characters in the display appear corrupt when the content contains song titles and other information in Thai.
    • Addresses other minor issues.

    Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 1.20:

    • Improves touch panel response when pressed or scrolled.
    • Addresses an issues where the sound is skipped or chopped under certain conditions.

    Before You Start


    Applicable Models

    This firmware update is intended for the NW-A30 series Walkman® players that have firmware version 1.10 or lower installed. To check the model and firmware version of your player, please follow the steps below.

    1. Press and hold the Power button until the Home menu appears.
    2. In the bottom right corner of the screen, tap the Options/Settings icon, select Settings, and then select Unit Information.
    3. Confirm your model number, and that the firmware version is 1.10 or lower.

    Note: If the version number is 1.20 or higher, this update utility is not necessary.

    Recommended Computer System Requirements

    • Operating Systems: Mac® OS X® 10.8 - 10.13

    Important Notes

    • WARNING: This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
    • IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommended that you transfer all tracks and data from the player to the computer before performing this update. Tracks and data that remain on the player may be damaged or deleted during the update process.
    • In order to install this update, there must be at least 200 MB of free space on the player. Please confirm the free space. If there is not enough free space in the built-in flash memory, transfer any unnecessary data back to the computer to increase free space.
    • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
    • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

    Download and Installation Instructions

    1. Click the Download Now icon on this page to begin.
    2. Read the Software Download License Agreement, then, if you agree, click ACCEPT AGREEMENT to continue.
    3. At the File Save dialog box, download the NW-A30_V1_20.dmg file to your desired location on your computer. (please note this location for reference)
    4. Connect the Walkman device to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
    5. Power on the Walkman device.
    6. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the NW-A30_V1_20.dmg file to begin the installation.
    7. Carefully follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
      IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the player from the computer while the update is in progress.

    Confirm Successful Update (optional)

    1. Press and hold the Power button until the Home menu appears.
    2. In the bottom right corner of the screen, tap the Options/Settings icon, select Settings, and then select Unit Information.
    3. If the version number is 1.20, the update has successfully installed.
