Benefits and Improvements
- Provides Security Updates (The security level displayed in the Settings menu will be as of November 2021)
- You will need to update both the Music Center for PC software and the Walkman firmware to the latest versions in order to improve connection stability. If either are not updated to the latest version, there is a possibility that the Music Center for PC software and Walkman device will not connect properly.
- The date and time must be set correctly on the Walkman or the update notification may not appear. If they are not correct, set the date and time manually.

Preparation
Check the firmware version
If your Walkman has already been updated to software version 4.06.00, you do not need to perform the update.
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Tap Settings → System → About device.
- The model name and the software version are shown in Model & hardware and Build number respectively.
Before you upgrade
- Be sure to connect to the network while updating.
- After updating, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
- After updating, the setting of Wireless playback quality in the Bluetooth function may be restored to the initial value (LDAC-Connection pref).
- The Permissions screen may be displayed after the update. If this occurs, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Transfer all data from the Walkman to the computer, since data which remains on the Walkman may be lost when updating.
- We cannot guarantee that tracks and data will not be damaged or deleted when performing this update.
- When updating, the Walkman needs to have free space of about 2 GB. Please confirm the amount of free space is sufficient.
- If there is not enough free space in the built-in flash memory, transfer any unnecessary data back to the computer to increase free space.
- Make sure the Walkman battery charge is over 60% and is in the charging state.
- During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
- The communication cost will be borne by users.
Important notice
For customers using Music Center for PC:
- To improve the connection stability, please update both the Music Center for PC and Walkman device software to the latest version.
- If either are NOT updated to the latest version, they may not be able to connect.
If the date & time is not correctly set in the Walkman, the update notification may not be appeared. So please check if the date & time is correctly set. If it is not correct, please set date & time manually.
How to set the date & time
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Tap the Clock icon, then the current date & time is shown. Note: If the date & time are correct, the Walkman appears in the update notification and you will not need to proceed with the remainder of this procedure.
- Return back to the Home screen by tapping (home of the Navigation bar) at the bottom of the screen.
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Tap the menu items in the following order: Settings → System → Date & time.
- If Automatic date & time is ON, tap Automatic date & time, then the Set date and Set time options under Automatic date & time will clearly appear.
- Tap Set date and set the correct date, if the date is incorrect. Then tap OK to return back to Date & time screen.
- Tap Set time and set the correct time, if the time is incorrect. Then tap OK to return back to Date & time screen.
- Tap Automatic date & time to set ON.
Download & Install
You can upgrade by either of the following methods:
- Updating via Wi-Fi (wireless LAN)
- Updating by using Music Center for PC
Step 1: Install the update
(1) Updating via Wi-Fi (wireless LAN)
By connecting to internet via Wi-Fi, you can download the latest software to your Walkman and update it. If the latest software is released, the update notice is shown on the display when the Walkman is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Connect the Walkman to a power source.
- Turn on the Wi-Fi function to connect the Walkman to the internet.
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Tap Settings → System → Advanced → System updates.
- Confirm the message carefully and follow the onscreen instructions to update.
(2) Updating by using Music Center for PC
Music Center for PC is a PC application to manage contents which can be used for Walkman.
In a start-up, Music Center for PC connects to an update server via the internet, and check automatically if the Walkman has an update information.
- Turn off the Wi-Fi function to disconnect the Walkman to the internet.
- Start up Music Center for PC on PC.
- Connect the Walkman to PC.
- Use USB for display is shown on Walkman screen. Tap File Transfer in Use USB for display, then tap OK.
- The update notice is displayed on the PC screen. Confirm the message carefully and follow the onscreen instructions to update.
Step 2: Check the update was successful
After the update, please confirm the new version has been installed successfully by following the steps.
- Swipe the Home screen of the Walkman upwards.
- Tap Settings → System → About device, then the software version is shown in Build number.
- If the Build number is 4.06.00, the update was successful.
