Note: The first restart after the update may take about 5 minutes. The Sony logo or startup animation may remain displayed for a few minutes, but this is part of the startup process. Please do not press and hold the power button to force restart your Walkman, as this can cause your Walkman to stop working as intended.

Preparation
Check the software version
If your Walkman has already been updated to the software version 3.00.01, you do not need to perform the update.
- Swipe the Home screen of the Walkman upwards.
- Tap Settings → About device.
- The model name and software version will appear in the Device name and Build number sections respectively.
Before you upgrade
- Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network while performing the update.
- After the update is complete, the system software cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
- Transfer all data from the Walkman to the computer, since data that remains on the Walkman may be lost when updating.
- We cannot guarantee that tracks and data will not be damaged or deleted when performing this update.
- The Walkman needs to have about 4.0 GB of free space to complete the update.
- If you have less than 4.0 GB remaining in the built-in flash memory, transfer any unnecessary data back to the computer to increase the amount of free space.
- Make sure the Walkman is charging and the battery charge is over 60%.
- During the installation of this file, make sure you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with administrative rights.
- Users will be responsible for any communication costs associated with this update.
Important Notice
- For customers using the Music Center for PC app:
- To improve the connection stability, please update both the Music Center for PC software and Walkman system software to the latest versions.
- If either is NOT updated to the latest version, they may not be able to connect.
- If the date and time are not correctly set in the Walkman, the update notification may not appear. Please ensure both are properly set. If the date and time are not correct, please set them manually.
How to set the date and time
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Tap the Clock icon to see the current date and time.
Note: If the date and time are correct, the Walkman will appear in the update notification and you will not need to proceed with the remainder of this procedure. - Return back to the Home screen by tapping (Home icon in the Navigation bar) located at the bottom of the screen.
- Swipe the Home screen upwards.
- Tap the menu items in the following order: Settings → System → Date & time.
- If Use network-provided time is ON, tap it to adjust the date and time manually. The options Set date and Set time will appear under Use network-provided time.
- Tap Set date, then set the correct date. Tap OK to return to the Date & time screen.
- Tap Set time, then set the correct time. Tap OK to return to the Date & time screen.
- Tap Use network-provided time to set it to ON.

(2) Update using the Music Center for PC software
Step 2: Check if the update was successful
After the update, please confirm the new version was installed successfully by following these steps:
- Swipe the Home screen of the Walkman upwards.
- Tap Settings → About device. The software version will appear in the Build number section.
- If the Build number is 3.00.01, the update was successful.
