Before You Start
This update only applies for LA-EA1 Mount Adapters with firmware version 01. If your firmware version is already Version 02, this update is not necessary.
Check the firmware version:
- Power on the camera.
- Press the Menu button.
- At the "Menu" screen, use the Control Dial to select "Setup", and then press the Control Dial.
- At the "Setup" screen, use the Control Dial to scroll to "Version", and then press the Control Dial.
- The firmware version is displayed on the LCD screen.
If the Lens/Mount Adaper firmware version is 02 or
higher, the camera does not need this update. - Press the Control Dial to close the version number display.
- WARNING!: This utility is only for use with the Sony® LA-EA1 Mount Adapter used with NEX cameras. Do not install this utility with any other model.
- WARNING!: This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
- To use the auto focus function with Supported A-mount Lenses, you must also download and install a firmware update for the NEX-VG10 camera (camera sold separately).
- This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
- A computer with:
- CPU: Intel® processor
- Available Hard Disk Space: 200 MB or more
- Installed Memory (RAM): 256 MB or more
- A USB port.
- Macintosh® OS X version 10.5 or 10.6.
Note: The 64-bit kernel is not supported.
- Camera power supply:
- When performing the firmware update, use a fully charged NP-FV70 or NP-FV100 (NP-FV100 sold separately) rechargeable battery pack, or the AC-PW10AM AC adaptor.
WARNING!: The camera may not operate properly if the power is interrupted during the update.

- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
IMPORTANT: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
The SAM and SSM lenses support auto focus when used with the NEX camera and the LA-EA1 Mount Adapter (sold separately).
Note: This feature also requires a firmware update for the NEX camera.

- Auto Focus function doesn't work for continuous AF on movie mode or AF-C on still mode, but it does work for AF-S (single AF by Photo key half push).
- With an A-mount lens attached, the auto focus speed will be slower than when an E-mount lens is attached. It takes approximately 2 to 7 seconds (based on Sony�s measurement standard) and may vary depending on the subjects or brightness of the shooting environments.
- To prevent Auto Focus noise being recorded, Sony recommends using a stereo microphone (sold separately) with stereo-mini plug (e.g. ECM-CG50).

- Check the Firmware Version After Updating (optional)
- Download the LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the NEX-VG10V2_Update1011a.dmg file.
Note: Do not connect the camera to the computer yet. - On the desktop, double-click the NEX-VG10V2_Update1011a icon.
- Double-click the "Firmware Updater" icon.
- At the Password prompt screen, enter the Name and Password for the administrative account, and then click "OK".
- Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
Note: The LCD screen on the camera will turn off when it is connected to the computer. - At the "Firmware Updater" window, click "Next".
WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete. - When the updater recognizes the camera connection the following screen is displayed, and the camera screen displays the message, "Follow computer instructions."
- At the "Firmware Updater" window, click "Next".
- When the following screen is displayed, check the version number at the lower left.
If the current version is "Ver.1", click "Next".
Note: If the current version is "Ver.2", your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection, click "Finish", then remove the battery or disconnect the AC adaptor briefly, and then power on the camera again. - When the following screen is displayed, press the Control Dial to reset the camera.
Note: Do not disconnect the USB cable from the camera or the computer.
- Press the Control Dial to reset the camera.
- At the "Firmware Updater" window, click "Next".
- When the following screen is displayed, click "Run".
WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete. - When the following screen is displayed, click "Finish".
- The update process starts and the progress bar is displayed on the camera screen.
- The update process is finished when the "Lens update complete." message is displayed on the camera screen.
- Disconnect the USB cable, power off the camera, then remove the battery pack or AC adapter.
- Reconnect the battery pack or AC adapter and power on the camera.
- Power on the camera.
- Press the Menu button.
- At the "Menu" screen, use the Control Dial to select "Setup", and then press the Control Dial.
- At the "Setup" screen, use the Control Dial to scroll to "Version", and then press the Control Dial.
- The firmware version is displayed on the LCD screen.
If the Lens/Mount Adaper firmware version is 02
the firmware update was successful. - Press the Control Dial to close the version number display.
