Benefits and improvements
This utility updates the SLT-A99V camera firmware to version 1.02 and provides the following benefits:
Improvements over version 1.01:
- Provides support for the SAL50F14Z Dual AF function compliant lens
- Provides the addition of HDMI® simultaneous output mode. In addition to the existing HDMI simultaneous output during movie recording, the camera will be able to display smooth 60fps(NTSC) or 50fps(PAL) video on an external monitor connected via HDMI and on the LCD screen of the camera simultaneously, including during movie recording standby. Note: Requires the camera set to Movie mode with [HDMI Info. Display] set to [Off].

- Provides support for the following Dual AF function compliant lenses:

Before You Start
Determine if Your Camera Needs the Update
This update is only for SLT-A99V cameras that currently have a firmware version 1.00 or 1.01. If your camera firmware version is already Version 1.02, this update is not necessary.
Check the version of your camera firmware:
- Power on the camera.
- Press the Menu button.
- At the Menu screen, select Setup.
- At the Setup screen, select Version.
- The firmware version is displayed on the LCD screen. Note: If the current firmware version is 1.02 or higher, the camera does not need this update.
Important Notes
- This utility is only for use with the Sony® SLT-A99V camera. Do not install this utility with any other model.
- WARNING: This Digital Camera firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
- This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
- A computer with:
- CPU: Intel® processor Note: Core™ Solo and Core Duo processors are not supported.
- Available Hard Disk Space: 200 MB or more
- Installed Memory (RAM): 512 MB or more
- A USB port.
- Apple® Mac OS X® version 10.5 - 10.11. Note: Versions 10.6 and 10.7 are not supported in 64-bit kernel mode. If your computer uses the 64-bit kernel by default, you can start up with the 32-bit kernel by holding down the 3 and 2 keys during startup.
- CPU: Intel® processor
- Camera power supply:
- This update can only be performed when the remaining battery level has three bars or more. When performing the firmware update, it is recommended that you use a fully charged NP-FM500H rechargeable battery pack, or the AC-PW10AM AC adapter/charger (sold separately).
- WARNING: Do not remove the battery pack or AC adapter during the update process, otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power loss.
- USB cable:
- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera. Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
- Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
- A computer with:
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.
Download & Install
Download and Update the Firmware
- Download the Update_SLTA99V102.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_SLTA99V102.dmg. Note: Do not connect the camera to the computer until instructed to do so.
- Double-click the Firmware Updater icon.
- At the Password screen, enter the Name and Password for the administrative account, and then click OK.
- Remove the memory card from the camera.
- Power on the camera.
- On the camera, press the Menu button, select Setup, select USB Connection, and ensure Mass Storage is selected.
- Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Note: On the camera, USB Mode appears on the LCD screen.
- At the Firmware Updater screen, click Next. WARNING: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
- When the updater recognizes the camera connection, the next Firmware Updater screen is displayed, and the camera screen displays the message Follow computer instructions. Notes:
- Do not cover the eyepiece sensors on the camera during the update; otherwise the LCD monitor may switch to the viewfinder. If you are unable see anything on the camera LCD monitor, please press the FINDER/LCD button.
- If the message Could not find the camera for this update appears on the computer display, try disconnecting and reconnection the USB cable or try another USB port on the computer.
- Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, a message appears to restart the computer. If this occurs, remove the battery pack or AC adapter from the camera, restart the computer, and then start the firmware update procedure again.
- At the Firmware Updater screen, click Next.
- When the following screen is displayed, check the version number at the lower left. If the current version is 1.00 or 1.01, click Next. Note: If the current version is 1.02, your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection, click Finish, then remove the battery or disconnect the AC adaptor briefly and then power on the camera again. WARNING:Do not disconnect the USB cable from the camera or the computer.
- On the camera, at the Resets camera message, press the center of the control button to reset the camera.
- At the Firmware Updater screen, click Next.
- When the following screen is displayed, click Run. Note: The update process takes about ten minutes to complete.WARNING: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
- When the update is complete, the following screen is displayed, click Finish.
- Disconnect the USB cable, power off the camera, then remove the battery pack or AC adapter.
- Reconnect the battery pack or AC adapter and power on the camera.
IMPORTANT: For OS X version 10.10 or 10.11, please ensure the Mac OS X Driver Loader has been installed before continuing to update your firmware.
Check the Firmware Version After Updating (optional)
- Power on the camera.
- Press the Menu button.
- At the Menu screen, select Setup.
- At the Setup screen, select Version.
- The firmware version is displayed on the LCD screen.
- If the current firmware version is 1.02, the firmware update was successful. Note: If the firmware version number is not 1.02, please download and install the firmware update again.
