Updates should be installed in chronological order!

  • For Ver. 1.32 or earlier:
    1. Update to Ver. 1.35 (an interim version included in this software package) by using the update program 01_Update_ILCE1V135.exe.
    2. After updating to Ver. 1.35, use the update program 02_Update_ILCE1V201.exe to update from Ver. 1.35 to Ver. 2.01.

If you have already updated the software version to Ver. 1.35 or Ver. 2.00, please use 02_Update_ILCE1V201.exe

Update overview

Fixes an issue where the camera may not be able to connect to the network after installing the system software update for Ver. 2.00. We apologize for the inconvenience.
This update also includes the benefits from the Ver. 2.00 update.

Things to keep in mind before performing the update

  • Make a note of your settings (in case of updating from Ver. 1.32 or lower):
    • After updating to this version, the camera settings will reset to the default values.
    • Since this update adds functions and major specification changes, the camera settings will be initialized as part of the update process.
    • We recommend you make a note of all the camera settings before proceeding.
    • Even if you have saved the settings using the various save features available (such as Save/Load settings and Save/Load FTP settings) the settings before Ver. 1.32 cannot be applied after the update.
  • Switching from Imaging Edge Mobile to Creators' App:
    • If you’re using the Imaging Edge Mobile app, please be aware that updated cameras will no longer be able to connect to this app. After updating your camera, install the Creators' App.
      • Please make sure the Imaging Edge Mobile app is Ver. 7.7.2 or later in order to pair the camera with the Creators' App.
    • If the Imaging Edge Mobile app is not Ver. 7.7.2 or later, update it before trying to pair the camera with the Creators' App.
    Note: For instructions on installing and connecting the camera to the Creators' App, please refer to Migrating from Imaging Edge Mobile app to Creators' App.
    Additionally, the NFC one-touch connection function used for the camera version 1.32 or earlier will no longer be available.

Preparation

Check the system software version

Follow the instructions below to check the system software version. If the system software version is Ver. 2.00 or earlier, the update is required. If you are using Ver. 2.01, you do not need to update.

Notes:
  • If the Date/Time setting screen appears when you turn on your camera, be sure to set the date and time to the correct values.
  • If the Language setting screen appears when you turn on the camera, be sure to set the language.
  1. On the camera, select MenuSetupSetup OptionVersion.
  2. The system software version will be displayed.

The downloaded package consists of the following:

When updating from Ver. 1.32 or earlier, first update to an interim version using the update program 01_Update_ILCE1V135.exe, then use the update program 02_Update_ILCE1V201.exe to update to Ver. 2.01.
If you have already updated the software version to Ver. 1.35 or Ver. 2.00, please start from Step 2.
The interim version will be Ver. 1.35.

Computer Hardware

This system software update requires the following hardware:

  • Intel-based PCs or AMD-based PCs (ARM-based PCs are not supported)
  • Hard drive space: 1.5 GB or more
  • RAM: 1.5 GB or more

Other Hardware

  • Power source for the camera: Use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FZ100.
    Note: The update can only be performed when the battery power level is three bars (or more) or above 51%. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery. Detach the vertical grip before updating the system software.
  • Use the USB cable supplied with the camera.
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Download & Install

Important Notice

  • Close all other application software before updating the system software.
  • Use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack (NP-FZ100).
  • Do not remove the battery during the update as the sudden loss of power may render the camera inoperable.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera before starting the update process.
  • The system software update will take approximately 15 minutes. Do not allow your computer to go into Sleep mode during this time.
    Note: If the computer does go into Sleep mode and the update is interrupted, the entire update process will need to be restarted.
  • Do not connect the camera to any other device except your computer.
  • Do not connect the camera and computer until instructed to do so.
  • Ensure that your computer is connected to the internet.
  • Follow the instructions in the System Software Updater window:
    On the camera, select MenuSetupUSBUSB Connection, and then check if Mass Storage has been selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.

How to download the Updater:

  1. Click the Download button above.
  2. After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
  3. The Update_ILCE1V201.zip file will start downloading.
    Note: File Size: 1.43 GB (1 545 222 807 bytes)
  4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).
    Note: With the standard settings of Microsoft Edge, the update file will be saved in your Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.

Step 1: How to update Ver. 1.32 or earlier to the interim version of the software

If you are using Ver. 1.35 or Ver. 2.00, you do not need to update to an interim version.

  1. Close all programs currently running on your computer.
  2. Right-click the downloaded file Update_ILCE1V201.zip and select Extract All to extract.
  3. Open the extracted folder and double-click the update program 01_Update_ILCE1V135.exe to start the System Software Updater. Do not connect the camera to the computer yet.
  4. Turn on the camera and connect it to the computer with the supplied USB cable. USB Mode will appear on the LCD screen of the camera.
  5. Click Next. The current and updated version numbers will appear on the lower left side of the screen.
    IMPORTANT: Never turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating.
    Note: If the computer cannot find the device, the message Could not find the camera for this update will display on the computer screen. Please try the following:
    • Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
    • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try another terminal.
  6. After confirming that the current software version is Ver. 1.32 or earlier, click Next.
  7. If the current and post-update versions are not displayed and you are prompted to apply the next System Software Updater, please exit this update program and apply the update program 02_Update_ILCE1V201.exe.
    • The update is required
      The [Current Version] on the lower left of the screen is showing 1.32 or earlier, and the [Version after the update] is showing 1.35.
    • Apply the next System Software Updater
      The only button on the screen is [Finish].
  8. The camera will reset automatically.
  9. Start the update. After automatically resetting the camera, the update will begin and a progress bar will appear. The update will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
    IMPORTANT: Never turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating.
  10. When the update is complete, the camera will automatically restart. When the LCD screen appears again, click Finish.

    Note: After restarting, a data recovery warning may be displayed. This is normal. Please wait until this warning disappears.
  11. This completes the application of the update program 01_Update_ILCE1V135.exe. Go to Step 2. Keep the USB cable connected.

Step 2: Software update procedure from an interim version to Ver. 2.01

Notes:
  • If the Date/Time setting screen appears when you turn on your camera, be sure to set the date and time to the correct values.
  • If the Language setting screen appears when you turn on the camera, be sure to set the language.
  1. Check on the camera screen that the USB connection is Mass Storage. If Select USB Connection is shown on the camera screen, select Mass Storage.
    Note: select MenuSetupUSBUSB Connection, and then check if Mass Storage has been selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.
  2. Extract the downloaded file Update_ILCE1V201.zip, open the folder, and double-click the update program 02_Update_ILCE1V201.exe.
  3. The System Software Updater will start.
  4. Click Next. The current and updated version numbers will appear on the lower left side of the screen.
    IMPORTANT: Never turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating.
    Note: If the computer cannot find the device, a Could not find the camera for this update message will display on the computer screen. Please try the following:
    • Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
    • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try another terminal.
  5. After confirming that the software version appears on the screen, click Next. If the current system software version is Ver. 2.01, the update is not required. In this case, follow the steps below:
    1. Disconnect the camera from the computer.
    2. Click Finish.
    3. Turn off the camera.
    4. Remove the battery pack.
    5. Reinsert the battery.
    6. Turn the camera back on.
    • The update is required
      The [Current Version] on the lower left of the screen is showing 1.35, and the [Version after the update] is showing 2.01.
    • If the following screen appears, disconnect the USB cable and check the version of the software. If the version of the software is Ver. 1.32 or earlier, please follow the steps in Step 1.
      Screen with the message [The firmware data is corrupted and the update process is aborted].
  6. The camera will reset automatically.
  7. Start the update. After automatically resetting, the update will begin and a progress bar will appear. The update will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
    IMPORTANT: Never turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating.
  8. When the update is complete, the camera will automatically restart. When the LCD screen appears again, click Finish, and then disconnect the USB cable.

    Note: After restarting, a data recovery warning may be displayed. This is normal. Please wait until this warning disappears.

Confirm the system software version of your device

  1. On the camera, select MenuSetupSetup OptionVersion.
  2. The system software version will be displayed.

Questions & Answers

The update does not finish

If the monitor remains black for more than 15 minutes, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  2. Remove the battery and AC adaptor from the camera, leave it for a few minutes, then insert the battery again or connect the AC adaptor.
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Turn on the camera and perform the installation process again.
