Before You Start
Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new Blu-ray player model. If the version number is M14.R.0257 or higher, you do not need this update.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Turn on the TV and make sure it's tuned to the input to which the Blu-ray Disc player is connected (So if the player is connected to the HDMI 2 port, choose HDMI 2 as the input).
- Turn on the Blu-ray player.
NOTE: If it starts to play a disc, press [STOP] and wait until you see the XrossMediaBar (XMB) menu screen. - At the [XrossMediaBar] screen, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select [Setup] > [System Settings] then select [ENTER].
- Select [Quick Start Mode] and make sure it's set to [Off], otherwise, the firmware upgrade may not succeed.
- Select [System Information], and then press the [ENTER] button.
- The Software Version listed on the screen displays the current firmware version installed.
NOTE: If the version number is M14.R.0257 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

Download & Install
Updating over the internet
We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 15-30 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the internet to your Blu-ray player.
What you need:
- An active internet connection (using Ethernet cable or wireless router)
- A compatible TV
How to make sure the update goes smoothly
Updating is usually very simple. Here's how you can make sure it goes right the first time:
- Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your Blu-ray player.
- Don't turn off the Blu-ray player or disconnect it from power while it's updating.
- Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.
Set up the equipment:
- Turn on the TV and make sure it's tuned to the input to which the Blu-ray Disc player is connected (So if the player is connected to the HDMI 2 port, choose HDMI 2 as the input).
- Connect the Blu-ray player to your internet source using an Ethernet cable or wireless connection via router.
- Turn on the Blu-ray player (If there is a disc in the player, take it out).
Get the update:
- At the [XrossMediaBar], use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select [Setup] > [Network Update] and then press [ENTER].
- The Network Update confirmation will be displayed on the TV. Select [OK], and then press [ENTER].
- The message "Update to a new software version" and the latest software version is displayed on the TV.
- Select [Start], and then press [ENTER]. The update process starts and is displayed on the TV.
- During the update, you will see the progress bar "x %" and the download capacity listed on the TV. The x changes to 0 and goes up to 100 during the update process.
- The player will reboot itself and the update will continue. NOTE: Don't use or turn on the player during this step.
- The progress bar "x %" and the download capacity will appear again on the TV.
- To complete the update, the player will automatically turn off and restart. NOTE: Don't use or turn off the player until the update is complete.
- Check the firmware version. If the version number is M14.R.0257, the firmware update was successful.
Troubleshooting
What to do if you have problems updating your Blu-ray player firmware using the internet.
- The message "Connection status cannot be confirmed" or "This device is not connected to network" shows on the TV.
The problem might be with the network connection.- For wired connection: make sure the LAN cable is connected between the player and the internet source.
- For wireless connection: make sure the wireless router is turned on and connected to an internet source.
- In the network settings, make sure you have confirmed whether or not your Blu-ray player has its own IP address (If you use a proxy server, type the IP address of the proxy you use, instead of the proxy host name, into the Proxy Server field).
- Confirm both "Physical Connection" and "Internet Access" are showing [OK] in [Network Settings] ---> [Network Connection Status].
- Try the update again.
- The power went off while the update was in progress.
Turn the player on and try the update again. - The update has been going for over 30 minutes and hasn't finished.
- Disconnect the AC power cord from the outlet, then reconnect it after several minutes.
- Turn on the Blu-ray Disc player.
- Try the update procedure again.
- You can also directly cancel the network procedure and proceed directly and perform the update via CD-R.
- While updating the message "Update failed" appears.
- Ensure there is no problem with your network connection to the internet.
- At the "Update failed" screen, select [OK] to try the update procedure again or [Cancel] to stop the process.
- If the symptom persists, download the firmware file and perform the update via CD-R.
