How to create or partition a hard disk.

WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Deleting an existing partition to create a new partition may cause existing programs not to work properly and will delete all data on that partition.

    IMPORTANT:

    • Ensure all important data has been backed up before changing the configuration of hard drive partitions.
    • This procedure cannot be performed on the hard disk on which the operating system is installed.

NOTE: To perform this procedure, there must be unallocated space on the hard drive from which to create a new partition.

    1. Ensure the disk is initialized .
    2. In the Computer Management window, in the bottom pane, click the Unallocated space to be partitioned.
    3. On the menu bar, click Action.

    5. In the New Partition Wizard window, click the Next button.
    6. Under Select Partition Type, click to select the desired partition type.

IMPORTANT: Always select Primary partition if this is the first partition on an additional hard drive.

NOTE: If Extended partition is selected, follow the instructions to complete the wizard, then add a new logical drive.

    7. Click the Next button.
    8. Under Specify Partition Size, next to Partition size in MB: enter the desired size of the partition.
