How to perform a clean boot.

    To eliminate software conflicts, follow the steps below to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot an issue or issues.

    NOTE:  When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality.

    1. Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Search charm.Image

      NOTE: The Windows Logo + Q key combination will also take you to the Search screen.

    2. In the Search screen, in the Search field type MSCONFIG, and then press the Enter key.
    3. In the System Configuration window, click the Services tab.
    4. On the Services tab, click to place a check in the check box next to Hide all Microsoft services, and then click the Disable all button.
    5. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
    6. On the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
    7. In the Task Manager window, click each Startup item in turn, and then click the Disable button.
    8. Once all Startup items have been disabled, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Task Manager window.
    9. On the System Configuration screen, click OK, and then restart the computer.

    Once the troubleshooting has been completed, to reset the computer to start as usual, perform these steps:

    1. Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Search charm.
    2. In the Search screen, in the Search field type MSCONFIG, and then press the Enter key.
    3. In the System Configuration window, on the General tab, click the Normal Startup option.
    4. Click the Services tab, click to remove the check from the next to Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Enable all.
    5. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
    6. On the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
    7. In the Task Manager window, enable all of your startup programs.
    8. Once all Startup items have been enabled, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Task Manager window.
    9. On the System Configuration screen, click OK.
    10. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.
