How to create a new storage pool (virtual drive) using the Storage Spaces feature.

The Storage Spaces feature allows the grouping of multiple disks of different sizes and interfaces (USB, SATA, SCSI, iSCSI, and SAS are supported) so they can all be seen as one large disk. These multiple disks, when grouped together, are called a pool and are used by the operating system as a single logical disk (virtual drive).

Follow these steps to group multiple disks into a single logical disk using the Storage Spaces feature.

1. Connect and setup the drives you want to use in the group.
2. Click Start and then click File Explorer, or on the taskbar, click the File Explorer icon.
3. In the File Explorer, verify that all the drives are detected.
4. Right-click the Start button or press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click to select Control Panel.
5. In the Control Panel, click the Storage Spaces icon.

   

6. In the Storage Spaces screen, click Create a new pool and storage space.

   

   NOTE: If the User Account Control appears, click YES.

7. In the Create a storage space screen, enter the desired Name, Drive letter, Resiliency type, and Size for the storage space you are creating.
8. Once all the necessary parameters are set, click the Create storage space button.
