Restrictions on Your Computer
After you upgrade your computer to Windows® 8, the below features, which were available with Windows® 7, may not function as usual or may be removed.
- Wireless
- Some wireless devices may not be able to turn off when Airplane mode is turned on within the Windows 8 PC Settings.
- Applicable models: VAIO® computers that have a wireless hardware switch.
- Power Media Dock
- You will need to shut down your computer when connecting or disconnecting the Power Media Dock.
- The Power Media Dock graphic accelerator feature is not supported for the main display.
- Applicable models: VPCZ2 Series and SVZ Series.
- VAIO Logo
- The VAIO Logo may not display during the startup process.
- Applicable models: VPCF23 Series.
- Display Brightness
- The display brightness may not change when adjusting the brightness control within the Charms.
- To control the brightness press and hold the Fn key, and then concurrently press F5 to decrease the brightness or F6 to increase the brightness.
- Applicable models: VPCL Series.
Restrictions on Sony Apps
- Media Gallery
- Media Gallery is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- PMB VAIO® Edition or PlayMemories Home for VAIO®
- The following features are removed during the upgrade process.
- Create Blu-ray Disc™
- Create DVD
- Create DVD-Video (with Original VAIO Menus)
- Create Blue-ray Disc (with Original VAIO Menus)
- Short Movie Creation
- Image stabilization
- Conversion to HD resolution (only for movies)
- Noise removal
- Exposure compensation (only for still photos)
- VAIO Control Center
- The screen refresh rate feature no longer works after the upgrade process. You will be required to utilize the Monitor Settings to adjust the screen refresh rate.
- Motion Reality is not available after the upgrade process.
- The touch operations on the front bezel are not available after the upgrade process.
- Applicable models: VPCL Series
- VAIO Media Plus
- VAIO Media Plus is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- VAIO Messenger
- VAIO Messenger is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- Keyboard Shortcuts
- Keyboard shortcuts are uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- VAIO Touch Portal
- VAIO Touch Portal is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- VAIO Boot Manager
- VAIO Boot Manager is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- VAIO Care
- The Create Recovery Media and the Reinstall applications and drivers features are not available after the upgrade process.
- VAIO Update
- Some apps are not included with the VAIO upgrade tool for Windows® 8. Start VAIO Update to obtain updated software after the installation of the VAIO upgrade tool for Windows 8.
- Your computer must be connected to the Internet to use VAIO Update.
- VAIO Care Rescue
- Shutting down your computer in Windows 8 places your computer into Hibernate mode.
- Pressing the ASSIST button while your computer is in Hibernate mode does not start VAIO Care.
Restrictions on Third-party Apps
- There will be some restrictions with third-party apps that were installed on your computer, after upgrading to Windows® 8.
- WinDVD
- If Win DVD was preinstalled on your computer, it is replaced with PowerDVD.
- WinDVD BD
- If WinDVD BD was preinstalled on your computer, it is replaced with PowerDVD BD.
- Quick Web Access
- The Quick Web Access feature is not available after the upgrade process.
- TriDef
- The TriDef 3D Ignition feature is not available after the upgrade process.
- The TriDef 3D Photo Viewer feature is not available after the upgrade process.
- Windows® XP mode
- The Windows XP mode feature will no longer be available after the upgrade process.
- Windows Media® Center
- Windows Media Center is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- If needed, Windows Media Center can be purchased from Microsoft®.
- ArcSoft® Magic-i Visual Effects
- ArcSoft Magic-I Visual Effects is uninstalled during the upgrade process.
- 3D
- The simulated 3D function (2D to 3D conversion) is disabled during the upgrade process.
- Applicable series: VPCF Series, VPCL Series, and SVL Series with the 3D-capable LCD screen.
- BitLocker
- If the BitLocker feature is turned on, it must be turned off to complete the upgrade process.
- To turn off BitLocker select Start, Control Panel, System and Security, BitLocker Drive Encryption, then Turn off BitLocker to open the Turn Off BitLocker window. Select Decrypt Drive on the window to disable the BitLocker Drive Encryption feature. After the upgrade is complete, enable the feature again.
