Windows 8.1 Upgrade Limitations

Some PCs may experience limitations following the update to Windows 8.1.

Limitations for Sony software

VAIO Transfer Support

• Cannot be used after updating to Windows 8.1.

Music by Sony

• Before updating to Windows 8.1, update to the latest version of the Music by Sony app in the Windows Store. Otherwise, you may lose part of your playlist.

Limitations by PC model series

SVD13 Series

• Before updating to Windows 8.1, update the BIOS. Otherwise, the update will fail.
• Before updating to Windows 8.1, it is necessary to update to the latest version of Intel® Anti-Theft Service.
• In Windows Media Player, while playing an AVCHD file, changing the output setting from external display only to internal LCD results in an error message from the player.
• Before updating to Windows 8.1, update to the latest driver for the front-facing camera. Otherwise, FastAccess will not work.
• DPI settings will change automatically following the update.

SVE11 Series

• Fn+F5/F6 does not work. Please use the Settings charm to change the brightness level.

SVF14 Series

• In Windows Media Player, while playing an AVCHD file, changing the output setting from external display only to internal LCD results in an error message from the player.

SVF144B/SVF154B Series

• When connecting to a BRAVIA TV using Miracast and playing Blu-ray Disc movies, video does not display on the TV.

SVP Series

• Before updating to Windows 8.1, it is necessary to update to the latest version of Intel Anti-Theft Service.

SVS1311/SVS1511/SVS13A1 Series

• Updating to Windows 8.1 may sometimes fail. It is recommended to continue to use Windows 8.

SVT Series

• Before updating to Windows 8.1, it is necessary to update to the latest version of Intel Anti-Theft Service.

SVZ Series

• FingerPrint device feature does not work correctly.
• The PC will hang up when resuming from sleep if both a VGA monitor and HDMI monitor are connected to the Power Media Dock.

VPCCA/VPCCB Series

• When playing movies, the following symptoms may occur:
• • Error messages may show.
  • Playback occurs with audio only (no video).
  • PowerDVD hangs.
• Noise will appear when output to HDMI monitor.
• Blank screen is shown when resolution is set to 1920x1200 on SPEED mode.

VPCEJ Series

• When playing movies, the following symptoms may occur:
• • Error messages may show.
  • Playback occurs with audio only (no video).
  • PowerDVD hangs.

VPCEL Series

• Bluetooth may have the following symptoms:
• • Searching devices may fail.
  • Uploading or downloading files may fail.
• Fn+F5/F6 does not work. Please use the Settings charm to change the brightness level.

VPCJ2 Series

• Bluetooth may have the following symptoms:
• • Searching devices may fail.
  • Uploading or downloading files may fail.
• Fn+F5/F6 does not work. Please use the Settings charm to change the brightness level.
• When playing movies, the following symptoms may occur:

  • Playback occurs with audio only (no video).

VPCL2 Series
