What is Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) and do VAIO® computers support it?

Virtualization technologies, like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT), combined with the appropriate virtualization software, will allow maximum system resource utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or computer. The Intel VT achieves this by removing any software dependency from the underlying hardware, which in turn helps to reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, and make the computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.

Intel VT requires a computer with a processor, chipset, BIOS, enabling software and/or operating system, device drivers, and applications designed to take advantage of VT features. Because of this, the performance of the VT features will vary depending on the computer configuration.

Not all VAIO computers have a CPU that supports Intel VT or a BIOS setting that allows you to turn it on. To determine if your computer supports Intel VT, use the following information:

1. Use the Intel Processor Identification Utility to determine if the CPU in your computer supports Intel VT.

2. Check the BIOS utility to determine if the Intel VT setting is available .
