Photos appear grainy or fuzzy with picture noise

When shooting images or videos, environmental shooting conditions or incorrect settings can result in images that are grainy, noisy, or fuzzy.

Try these tips to resolve the issue:

1. Dirty lens or image sensor.

   Clean the camera lens and image sensor to make sure dust, dirt, spots, or watermarks are not causing the issue.

2. Check the ISO setting. Shooting with a high ISO setting in dark or poorly illuminated areas can cause issues. Whether the ISO is set manually or automatically by the camera, high ISO settings make the image sensor more sensitive to light. However, while the image sensor becomes more sensitive to light, high ISO settings also make pictures more susceptible to picture noise. While this is normal behavior with digital photography, there are some recommendations to reduce the issue:
   • If using the automatic setting on the camera, make sure you are shooting in a well-lit environment if possible.
   • When using manual settings, lowering the ISO setting and using the flash is suggested - providing your subject is not too far away.
     Note: Some cameras have a noise reduction feature that helps counter picture noise when using a high ISO setting.

3. Select an automatic mode on the camera to provide the best settings for the image taken.

   Depending on the camera, select an automatic mode such as Intelligent Auto or Scene Selection.

   • Intelligent Auto identifies scene characteristics, selects the settings, and shoots the photo. 
   • Scene Selection allows you to select the shooting mode closest to the lighting environment where you are taking photos.
