Status of Xperia Phones after 3G Shutdown (3G Sunset) by US Wireless Carriers

    In 2022 wireless carriers in the U.S. began decommissioning their 3G cellular networks. Therefore, Xperia models that are 3G (CDMA) and 4G that do not support HD voice (non-VoLTE) will be impacted. 4G VoLTE and 5G cellular networks will be supported.

    The following Xperia models are compatible with 4G VoLTE and/or 5G and will not be impacted by the current cellular network retirement:

    • Xperia 1, J8170 (software version 55.2.E.0.148 or higher, available FOTA Oct 2021)
    • Xperia 1 II, XQ-AT51
    • Xperia 1 III, XQ-BC62
    • Xperia 5, J8270 (software version 55.2.E.0.148 or higher, available FOTA Oct 2021)
    • Xperia 5 II, XQ-AS62
    • Xperia 5 III, XQ-BQ62
    • Xperia Pro, XQ-AQ62
    • Xperia Pro-I, XQ-BE62
    • Xperia 10, I3123 (with software version 53.1.A.3.134 or higher, available FOTA Jan 2022)
    • Xperia 10 Plus, I3223 (with software version 53.1.A.3.134 or higher, available FOTA Jan 2022)

    Older Xperia models not listed above will be impacted by the decommissioning of 3G cellular networks. Please contact your wireless carrier for specific 3G network decommissioning dates, options, and support.
