How can I transfer data from one SD card to another?

    To transfer data from one SD card to another (overview)

    1. First transfer the data from the SD card to a computer or to the internal storage of your device. 
    2. Turn off your device and remove the SD card. Insert the other SD card and turn on the device.
    3. Then transfer the data to the SD card from the computer or from the internal storage.

    Transferring data from an SD card to the internal storage

    Android 8.0

    To transfer data from a memory card to the internal storage 

    1. Find and tap Settings Storage.
    2. Tap SD Card.
    3. Make sure the internal storage is visible by tapping the menu button (three vertical dots). If Hide internal storage is shown, the internal storage is already visible. Otherwise tap Show internal storage.
    4. Touch and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Move to... / Copy to...
    6. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, and then tap .
    7. Select a destination on your internal memory and tap MOVE / COPY. 

    Android 7.0, 7.1 or 7.1.1

    To transfer data from a memory card to the internal storage  

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Downloads.
    3. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, and then tap   SD Card.
    4. Touch and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Move to... / Copy to...
    6. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, and then tap .
    7. Select a destination on your internal memory and tap MOVE / COPY. 

    Android 6.0

    Note! Not valid for Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra.

    To transfer data from a memory card to the internal storage  

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings Storage.
    3. Tap the name of your SD Card and find the folder or files that you want to transfer.
    4. Tap and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) >  Copy to...
    6. Select a destination on the internal storage and tap COPY.

    Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra running Android 6.0

    To transfer data from a memory card to the internal storage  

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings Storage & memory. 
    3. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Advanced > Storage SD Card.
    4. Touch and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Copy to...
    6. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, and then tap Internal storage.
    7. Select a destination on the internal storage and tap COPY.

    Transferring data from the internal storage to an SD card

    To transfer media files from internal storage to a memory card 

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings Storage Storage & memory > Transfer data to SD card Transfer data.
    3. Mark the media file types you want to transfer to the memory card, then tap Transfer/TRANSFER.

    If you want to transfer other file types than media files, you can use the built-in file explorer.

    Android 8.0

    To transfer data from the internal storage to a memory card

    1. Find and tap Settings > Storage > Internal shared storage.
    2. Find and tap Files.
    3. Touch and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    4. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Move to... / Copy to...
    5. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right.
    6. Tap    SD Card.
    7. Select a destination on the memory card and tap MOVE / COPY.

    Android 7.0, 7.1 or 7.1.1

    To transfer data from the internal storage to a memory card

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Downloads.
    3. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right.
    4. Tap , and then touch and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Move to... / Copy to...
    6. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, and tap  SD Card.
    7. Select a destination on the memory card and tap MOVE / COPY.

    Android 6.0

    Note! Not valid for Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra.

    To transfer data from the internal storage to a memory card

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings > Storage > Internal Storage > Explore.
    3. Tap and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    4. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) >  Copy to...
    5. Select a destination on the memory card and tap COPY.

    Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra running Android 6.0

    To transfer data from the internal storage to a memory card

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings Storage & memory. 
    3. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Advanced > Storage > Internal storage > Explore.
    4. Touch and hold the folder or file that you want to transfer.
    5. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > Copy to...
    6. Drag the left edge of the screen to the right, and then tap SD card.
    7. Select a destination on the memory card and tap COPY.

    Managing files using a computer

    Connecting via USB

    You can use a USB cable to connect your device to a computer to transfer and manage your files to and from the SD card in your device. Once the two devices are connected, you can use the Windows® computer's file explorer to drag and drop content between your computer and device, or between your device's internal storage and memory card.

    To connect an Xperia device to a Windows® computer

    1. Connect your Xperia device to a Windows® computer using a USB cable.
    2. Xperia device: If prompted, in the Use USB to dialog, tap Transfer files (MTP).
    3. Computer: Open Microsoft® Windows® Explorer. Your Xperia device appears under Computer.
