Quick Setup for the CRE-C10 Self-fitting OTC hearing aids
Use the information below to set up your CRE-C10 hearing aids. Follow these steps carefully to ensure that the hearing aids pair with your device successfully.
Before you start
- Find a quiet place where you are not disturbed by loud sounds.
- Make sure your phone has a strong internet connection (Wi-Fi® or cellular data) throughout the pairing process.
1Unbox your hearing aids

Install the batteries
- Open the battery door on one of the hearing aids.
- Take one battery out of the package and place it into the battery compartment.
- Remove the yellow sticker and leave the battery door open.
- Repeat the process for the other hearing aid.

Wearing the hearing aids
- Check that you have the correct hearing aid positioned for each ear before inserting them. Hold the hearing aids with the L and R marks upright and the removal cord at the bottom. Make sure the battery doors are closed.
Note: Use L for your left ear and R for your right ear. - Gently push the hearing aid into the ear canal until it fits snuggly.
How to insert, fit, and remove the hearing aids
Find the correct click sleeve size
- Grasp and remove the click sleeves.
Note: Click sleeves can be wiped or cleaned after each use and should be changed periodically if there is excessive wax accumulation. They are designed to be discarded after removal from the device. - Position the tab on the click sleeve as pictured below, then press it onto the hearing aid. You will hear a click when it is fully attached.

4Prepare your phone for setup
Your OTC hearing aids connect to your phone through a unique pairing process. The phone emits a high-pitched sound containing data and instructions to communicate with the hearing aids. This sound is soft and high-pitched and may not be heard by everyone, so ensuring it comes from the phone's speakers is essential to a successful setup.
To ensure this success, you must configure specific phone settings to pair the hearing aids with the Sony | Hearing Control app.
5Download the app, pair the hearing aids, and complete the hearing profile check
To pair your hearing aids, you will need to download the Sony | Hearing Control app. Please note that the hearing aids only remain in pairing mode for 90 seconds, so you must keep the battery doors open until instructed to close them during the on-screen setup.
- If you haven't done so already, open the battery doors on the hearing aids.
- Download the Sony | Hearing Control app to your smartphone.
- Open the app and agree to the privacy policy and conditions.
Note: For iOS users only: At the Sony | Hearing Control Wants to Use b2clogin.com to Sign In screen, tap Contine. - If you already have a Sony account LOG IN or tap SIGN UP to create an account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to pair the hearing aids with your device.
- Complete the hearing profile check. The app will guide you through the process, which may take up to 20 minutes. You must complete all the steps in the app carefully to set up and use the hearing aids.
Notes:- Do not leave the app during the hearing profile check. Otherwise, a time-out may occur, leading to a failure.
- If a problem occurs, fully close the app and then reopen it to restart over. After you've restarted the app, do not leave it until you complete the setup.
- After the hearing profile check is complete, adjust the loudness settings accordingly.
- Your hearing aids are now paired!

Adjust the volume and sound balance
On the main Remote control screen, tap the Volume or Sound balance tab, and then use the slider bar to increase or decrease the setting.
Note: Remote Control settings are temporary and NOT retained in the app or hearing aids.Fine-tune the sound and adjust the loudness
- The Fine tuning setting is available from the menu → fine tuning.
Select the appropriate Category and Description according to your situation; the app will try to improve the sound of your hearing aids.

Troubleshooting tips
I don't hear the beeps during set-up, what should I do?
Let's first explain how the phone communicates with the hearing aids. The phone sends a high pitch sound to the hearing aids. This sound contains data and tells the hearing aids what to do. Most of us can't hear this sound, but it's important that the sound is physically coming out of your phone's speaker. That is why your phone needs to be unmuted, the media volume (not the ringer volume) needs to be at 75%, and external devices like smart watches, headphones and speakers should be turned off. The app instructions cover this step by step.
Here are the most common reasons that beeps are not heard during set-up:
- The "media" volume is not at 75%: The phone's media volume needs to be at 75%. Media volume is not the same as ringer volume. Media volume is the loudness level of music and videos on your phone. The media volume is not always controlled by the buttons on the side of your phone. You can play a song or video clip on your phone to test that sound is indeed coming from the phone's speaker at 75% media volume. You should be able to hear this test clip loud and clear. While playing the test audio, the buttons on the side of your phone will typically adjust the media volume to go louder or softer.

The phone needs to be unmuted for set-up:
- iPhone: flip the little switch on the side of your phone so that no orange is showing. This will place your phone in ringer mode which means the phone is unmuted.
- Android: Make sure the media volume slider is not turned down all the way. The volume slider needs to be on 75% media volume (unmuted). The location of this will vary depending on the model of android.
- iPad: depending on the model there will either be a switch on the side of the ipad (flip this switch no orange is showing) or there will be a bell icon in the control center of the ipad that acts as a mute/unmute.

The phone needs to be unmuted for set-up:
- Smart watch (or other Bluetooth device) interference: Bluetooth devices can interfere with the sound needed for programming. Sound can be routed to the Bluetooth devices instead of the phone's speaker. To prevent this, turn off external Bluetooth devices. Once the devices are turned off, you can check the Bluetooth menu of your phone to verify they are not connected. All Bluetooth devices should say 'not connected.' We recommend turning off Bluetooth devices rather than unpairing them, and here's why: many smartwatches connect to your phone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so it's best to power down a watch so it doesn't interrupt setup through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It could still interfere via Wi-Fi if you only unpair it from the Bluetooth menu.
- App interference: It isn't uncommon for your phone to have numerous apps running in the background, often without your knowledge. Some of these apps might interfere with the sound necessary for programming. To avoid this, it's crucial to close all background apps, including the Sony | Hearing Control app, and then restart the application.
- Low battery: The battery is losing power. Make sure you have a fresh pill battery for set-up. If the battery is low, the hearing aids won’t connect.
- Poor internet connection: A strong Wi-Fi or cellular data connection is necessary for setup. A spotty internet connection will disrupt the setup process.
