How do I change my phone settings to customize my OTC Self-fitting Hearing Aids?
- Settings and images used in these instructions may differ slightly depending on your phone.
- Many smartwatches connect to your phone via Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi®, so it’s best to power down a watch so it doesn’t interrupt set-up.

For the initial setup, you will need to close all apps, disconnect all externals devices, and change some settings on your phone:
- Close apps running in the background:
To ensure a smooth setup process for your OTC hearing aids, it's important to close any open apps on your phone. Even if you click out of an app, it may still be running in the background and causing interference. Simply restarting your phone will not solve this issue. Therefore, please manually close any apps running in the background before proceeding with the setup process.
Note: Please refer to the Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch page to make sure your apps are closed. - Disconnect any external devices, such as earbuds, headphones, a speaker, etc. from your phone.
- Turn off your Apple Watch®:
An Apple Watch will interfere with the OTC hearing aid setup. To avoid interference, please turn off your Apple Watch.
Note: If you need illustrations or detailed instructions, refer to the Restart Apple Watch section for details on how to turn off the Apple Watch. - Unmute your phone and set the media volume (not ringer volume) to a high level (about 75%). We do not recommend setting the volume to 100%.
Media volume is not always the volume button on the side of the phone. To adjust the media volume on an Apple device, you need to go to the control center of the phone and find the slider bar with the speaker icon. This is the media volume.
Notes:- If ringtone and alert volume are assigned to change with the buttons on the side of your phone, make sure to change the media volume from the Control Center. If you need instructions on how to open the Control Center, refer to the Access Control Center on your iPhone page for details.
- If there is an ear icon instead of a speaker icon in the media volume slider box, this indicates there is a Bluetooth device connected. All external devices must be disconnected for set up (either unpaired or turned off). Please disconnect any external devices and return to this screen to adjust the media volume with the speaker icon.
- Make sure the mute/silent switch on the side of the phone is turned off (you should not see orange next to the switch).

For CRE-E10 users only: Change the Audio Routing setting to Never Hearing Devices so your iPhone can communicate with your hearing aids through the iPhone speaker. This setting is required during the initial setup, Loudness Adjustments, or Fine Tuning.Note: After you complete the setup, you must change the Audio Routing setting back to Automatic to enjoy streaming music and other media audio.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Hearing Devices.
- Tap Audio Routing.
