How to complete the Custom Data Rescue option using a Blu-ray® Disc (BD) , DVD, CD media.

    1. In the Specify the "Save in" Disk Drive window, click to select the desired optical drive and then click the Next button.
    2. In the Confirm Save Folder window, confirm the folder name and then click the Next button.

      NOTE: If you would like to change the folder name, click the Change Folder Name... button, type in the desired folder name and then click the OK button.

    3. In the Specify Drive to Rescue window, click to select the hard disk drive or partition you would like to back up and then click the Next button.
    4. In the Specify Data to Rescue window, click to check the box next to the folder or file you would like to back up.

      NOTES:

      • This window can be used like Windows Explorer. You can expand folders in the left frame and view contents in the right pane.
      • When you select a folder, all subfolders and files in that folder will be backed up.
      • When you select additional folders, the Estimated number of disks required: section is automatically updated.

    5. Click the Next button.
    6. In the Specify Disc window, click to select the type of optical disc media you would like to use and then click the Next button.
    7. In the Writing Data window, click the Start button.
    8. Insert the appropriate optical disc media into the optical drive and then click the OK button.
    9. When the optical disc is completed, a Rescue Data window is displayed instructing you how to label the disc. Label the disc appropriately and store it in a safe location.

      NOTES:

      • If the backup requires more than one optical disc, insert another optical disc and then click the Next button.
      • If you do not have enough discs or the time to complete the process, the process can be canceled after at least one disc is completed and then resumed at a later time.

    10. In the Rescue Data window, click the OK button.
    11. In the Data Rescue Completed window, click the Next button.

      NOTE: To view specific information about each file that was backed up, in the Data Rescue Completed window, click to select the drive from the list and then click the Details... button. An example of the Details windows is displayed below:

    12. In the Rescue Data window, click the Exit button and the computer will restart.

      NOTES:

      • If you would like to back up additional data, click the Continue Rescue button and follow the on-screen prompts.
      • You can also start the entire process over again to back up additional data.

    When you are ready to restore the data, use the VAIO Restore Data Tool .
