The CD, DVD or the Blu-ray Disc optical drive will not read a disc or is not working properly.

If the CD, DVD or the Blu-ray Disc® optical drive will not read a disc or is not working properly, follow the steps below.

    IMPORTANT:

    1. Restart the computer.

NOTE: Wait a few seconds for the disc to be detected before double-clicking the drive to access it.

    2. Try a different disc in the drive.

NOTE: If another disc works in the drive, the disc may be damaged in some way or is not readable. If replacing the disc does not resolve the issue, proceed with the next steps.

    3. Turn off the computer.
    4. Unplug the computer from the AC power outlet for 30 seconds, then plug it back into a known working AC outlet.
    5. If the drive is removable, ensure the drive is properly connected and has power.
    6. Turn on the computer.
    7. If the computer is connected to a network, ensure the drive letter normally assigned to the optical drive is not assigned to a network drive or other resource.
    8. Perform a system restore  to a point when the CD, DVD or Blu-ray Disc drive was functioning properly.
    9. Check for a possible virus  on the computer.
    10. Remove upper and lower filters in the registry .
    11. Perform a system recovery.
