How to use the VAIO Care™ utility to improve system performance.
The VAIO Care utility includes a System Tuneup feature that can be used to speed up the performance of a slow computer. System Tuneup uses a hard disk drive (HDD) cleaner to defragment and fix problems with the HDD, as well as a registry cleaner to scan for and fix problems with the Windows system registry.
Follow the procedure below to tune up your computer:
- Click the Start button and then click the VAIO Care folder.
- In the VAIO Care folder, click VAIO Care.
NOTE: If prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password, click Continue or click Yes.
- In the One Click Care window, click the Run System Tuneup button.
NOTE: A status screen is displayed that shows the progress of each test.
- In the problem report window, click the Yes button.
NOTE: This window shows the problems detected by each test.
- In the VAIO Care window, click the OK button.
NOTE: Defragmenting a Solid State Drive (SSD) does not improve system performance because unlike a standard HDD there are no moving parts. It is the moving parts, such as the read arm, that slow down a standard HDD because it takes time to physically move the arm around disk platters to read the data.
- Click the This process... window, Yes button.
NOTES:
- A status screen is displayed that shows the progress of each system cleaner.
- Sometimes the cleanup process will not be completed until the computer is restarted, as shown for the Registry Defrag in the image below.
- In the completed window, click the OK button.
