How to use the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility to diagnose hardware issues using the VAIO Care™ software.

    The VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility can be used to perform various tests to ensure the computer is working properly and diagnose hardware issues when they occur. The utility allows you to perform tests on the following components: processor (CPU), memory (RAM), video adapter, hard disk drive (HDD), optical drive (CD / DVD), network adapter (LAN), USB, and Sony Memory Stick® controller. Follow the procedure below to use the utility.

    NOTE: If you are not able to start the operating system, hardware diagnostics for the CPU and hard disc drive are available after booting the computer using the F10 key or Recovery Discs .

    1. Close all open programs.
    2. Click the Start button and then click All Programs.
    3. In the All Programs menu, click the VAIO Care folder and then click VAIO Care.
    4. In the VAIO Care window, in the left pane, click Troubleshooting.
    5. In the Troubleshooting window, under Diagnostics, click Hardware. Image
    6. In the Hardware window, click the appropriate button depending on the hardware test you would like to perform

      NOTE: Tests can be run on the following components: CPU, Hard Drive, CD Drive, Sony MS Controller, LAN, Memory, Video, DVD Drive, USB.

    7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test.

    Listed below are the errors that may be returned by the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics and the resolution action required:
