How to restore the computer to the last known good configuration.

    Follow this procedure to restore the computer to the last known good configuration.

    IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

    NOTE: The Last Known Good Configuration option will resolve issues related to incorrect drivers or configurations. It will not resolve issues due to corrupted or missing files and will not restore the entire registry, other system files or configurations.

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. When the SONY screen is displayed, press and hold the F8 key for 7-10 seconds.

      NOTE: If a Please Select Boot Device window appears, restart the computer and on the SONY screen, press and hold the F5 key for 7-10 seconds.

    3. In the Windows Advanced Options menu, use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration .
    4. Press the ENTER key.
    5. The operating system may prompt to select the operating system to start. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select the desired operating system.

      NOTE: On VAIO® computers bundled with the Windows® XP operating system, the only operating system listed will be the one included with the computer.

    6. Press the ENTER key.
