How to disable the IEEE 802.1x authentication used by a wireless connection.
Follow this procedure to disable the IEEE 802.1x authentication used by a wireless connection in the Windows® XP operating system with Service Pack (SP) 1.
IMPORTANT: IEEE 802.11x authentication can not operate on peer-to-peer (ad hoc) networks or on networks for which data encryption is disabled.
- Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, under Pick a category, double-click the Network and Internet Connections icon.
- In the Network and Internet Connections window, under or pick a Control Panel icon, double-click the Network Connections icon.
- In the Network Connections window, double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon.
- In the Wireless Network Connection Status window, on the General tab, click the Properties button.
- In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click the Wireless Networks tab.
- On the Wireless Networks tab, in the Preferred networks: box, click to select the connection being used.
- Click the Remove button.
- In the Available networks: box, click to select the connection that was just removed from the Preferred networks: box.
- Click the Configure button.
- In the Wireless Network Properties window, in the Wireless network key (WEP) box, click to select the Data encryption (WEP enabled) tab.
- Click to select the Network Authentication (Shared mode) box.
- In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click the Authentication tab.
- On the Authentication tab, click to clear the Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X box.
- Click the OK button.
