How to disable the IEEE 802.1x authentication used by a wireless connection.

Follow this procedure to disable the IEEE 802.1x authentication used by a wireless connection in the Windows® XP operating system with Service Pack (SP) 1.

IMPORTANT: IEEE 802.11x authentication can not operate on peer-to-peer (ad hoc) networks or on networks for which data encryption is disabled.

1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window, under Pick a category, double-click the Network and Internet Connections icon.
3. In the Network and Internet Connections window, under or pick a Control Panel icon, double-click the Network Connections icon.
4. In the Network Connections window, double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon.
5. In the Wireless Network Connection Status window, on the General tab, click the Properties button.
6. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click the Wireless Networks tab.
7. On the Wireless Networks tab, in the Preferred networks: box, click to select the connection being used.
8. Click the Remove button.
9. In the Available networks: box, click to select the connection that was just removed from the Preferred networks: box.
10. Click the Configure button.
11. In the Wireless Network Properties window, in the Wireless network key (WEP) box, click to select the Data encryption (WEP enabled) tab.
12. Click to select the Network Authentication (Shared mode) box.
13. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click the Authentication tab.
14. On the Authentication tab, click to clear the Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X box.
15. Click the OK button.
