Before You Start

Important Notes

  • WARNING!! Do not turn off the drive or remove the software update disc during the update process.
  • It is necessary to use a computer with a CD burner, disc burning software, and a blank CD-R to create a data CD for the system software update.

    Note: The functionality to create a data CD is included in the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system.

  • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions

  1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  2. Download theVRDMC3.EXEfile to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click theVRDMC3.EXEfile to begin the installation.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to extract the "vrdmc3.svf" file to the desired location.
  5. At the "WinZip Self-Extractor - VRDMC3.EXE" dialog, click the "Browse" button to locate and select the desired location to save the extracted file, and then click "Unzip".
  6. At the "1 file(s) unzipped successfully" dialog, click "OK", and then click "Close".

    Note:The "vrdmc3.svf" file may be save to the "395955" folder which was automatically created in the location selected to save the file.

  7. Use your CD burning software or the Windows XP functionality to create a data CD to record the "vrdmc3.svf" file to a blank CD.

    Note:The "vrdmc3.svf" file must be recorded to the root directory of the CD. Do not include the "395955" folder, create a folder, or save the file in a folder on the CD.

After creating the software update CD, you are ready to update the software on the DVDirect drive.

How to install the DVDirect System Software Update.
  1. Ensure the DVDirect drive is disconnected from the computer and powered on.
  2. Insert the system software update CD containing the "vrdmc3.svf" file.

    Note:The update disc will load and display the message "Unavailable disc inserted. Use a disc compatible with DVDirect." Please disregard this message and select "Return" from the control buttons.

  3. On the main menu, select "Setup", then "System", and then "OK".
  4. At the "System Revision: x.xx.xx.xx Update?" screen, select "OK".
  5. At the "System Revision: from x.xx.xx.xx to x.xx.xx.xx" screen, select "OK".
  6. The update will start and display the "Upgrading firmware... This will take about 10min" message.

    IMPORTANT: Do not turn off the drive or remove the software update disc during the update process.

  7. After the update is complete, the DVDirect drive will automatically power off.

The installation of the DVDirect System Software Update is complete.
