Before You Start

Important Notes

  • WARNING!! Do not turn off the drive or the computer during the update process.
  • In order to install this firmware update, the DVDirect VRD-VC20 Video Capturing Plug-in must be installed. A link to the DVDirect VRD-VC20 Video Capturing Plug-in is available in the You May Need This section above.
  • Please ensure the DVDirect drive is connected to your computer, powered on, and properly detected by the computer. Please see "Connecting the drive to a computer" in the Operating Instructions for more information about using the drive as an external DVD drive.
  • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions

  1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  2. Download the VC201308.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the VC201308.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to extract the files to the desired location.
  5. At the "WinZip Self-Extractor - VC201308.EXE" dialog, click the "Browse" button to locate and select the desired location to save the extracted files, then click "Unzip".
  6. At the "2 file(s) unzipped successfully" dialog, click "OK", and then click "Close".
  7. Go to the directory where the 2 files were extracted, open the "vrdup1308" folder, and double-click the "vrdup1308.exe" file to start the installer.
  8. The firmware update application will detect the current firmware version and display both the current and new versions.

    Note: If the current firmware version is "1308", it is not necessary to perform the update. To close the application, click "Exit"

  9. At the "SONY VRD-VC20 Updater v1308" screen, click "Update".

    IMPORTANT: Do not turn off the drive or the computer during the update process.

  10. Wait for the "Status:" window to display "Update OK", and then click "Exit" to finish.
